Is this what you are expecting to see?

This works fine if the Artist appears on only a single Album.
However if they appear on multiple albums, such as the Rolling Stones one has to scroll through hundreds of tracks to find what appears on any one album.
I guess I will have to learn to live with it.

I sincerely thank you for your patience and help during my journey of discovery.

HI, can I just take you back to your initial question? I did try get to grips with the whole thread, but it got a dense, and I am not sure that it is working towards answering your initial query.

Firstly your initial tagging seems correct to me, ie composite albums have a collective name albumartist, like "Various Artists", to collect together the album.

Album View I see a single album which shows all tracks
Artist View I see only the tracks from that artist on the compilation album.

You have already discovered how to see the first of the above two items.

The second is available in the "List (by album)" View.

Here I have opened the Artist subnode, looking at The Beach boys ... I am in "List (by album) View. (nb. there are various ways to set View; one is menu View>MainPanelView)

In the above illustration you can see that Beach Boys albums are displayed, including the the Forest Gump Soundtrack composite album, and that album shows the Beach Boys track only ... Which is what you are looking for?

What may be confusing you is a design decision by the MM Designers.

If I stay in the same position (ie. I don't re-navigate to somewhere else). All I do is change To the "Grid (by album)" View.
I can still see the composite album. I can open two different views into it, ie. either click the album art, or alternatively click the album name ... The two views are different, but both show all tracks in the album, not just the Beach Boys track.

You may think that this is wrong. Ie. you have drilled down into The Beach Boys ... and then you drill down a little further, and they ignore your context, and polute the display with non-Beach Boy tracks.

They would probably say that they are not providing an incorrect answer, they are providing a valid answer to the other question that you may have been asking ... ie. you wanted to see albums that contain Beach Boys tracks, and then you clicked one of the albums to see what it contained. ie. you started another query.

As you see above, both of the album displays are quite clear about which are Beach Boy tracks
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

Yes, when you expand an Album all contents of the Album are shown. However this isn't an issue when you switch to the List or List (by Album) View as they show the files, not Albums associated with the selected Contributing Artist.

Since most of my compilation albums only have one or two tracks per Artist the setup you guided me to works quite well.

I have however run into another issue.
Within an artist the albums are displayed horizontally by date, which is what I want.
How do I change the Album date to a date which is unrelated to any of the track dates.
If I select the Album | Properties and set the date it wants to change the date of all the tracks.

You have 2 dates you can use:
- Date, generally used as the Album date
- Original date, generally used at the Track date
