[REQ] Duplicate Titles/Artist/Album?

I have +20K tracks in my MM library. When I go to Files To Edit -> Duplicate Titles/Artist, +2.1K tracks are found. Upon inspection, the 'duplicates' are not true duplicates; typically they are instances of the same track present on different albums: for instance, a track on the original artist/original album, plus the same track on a Greatest Hits album of the original artist, and/or the same track on a Compilation of tracks by different artists. It seems to me that a Duplicate Titles/Artist/Album function would help to identify actual duplicate entries. Apologies if this request is itself a duplicate, but my search didn't find anything similar. Thanks. pxd

Hi pxd,

You may want to take a look at the Duplicate Content option - a couple of click down from the option you cited.

In my library I have ~32% tracks that have "Duplicate Titles and Artists". This is primarily different albums that have the same track.

If I ignore the artist, then the Duplicate Titles options show 46% of my library!

However, Duplicate Content shows just 2 tracks out of 110,000.

Ian, thanks for your message, and sorry for my slow reply. My numbers resemble yours, to a certain extent. 20264 files, Duplicate Titles: 4651, Duplicate Titles/Artists: 2111, Duplicate Content: 2 (De La Soul - Stone Age, as it happens, from two different albums). However, I still reckon that a Duplicate/Titles/Artists/Album filter would help sniff out actual duplicate tracks (here I mean multiple database entries based on a single file) more quickly. Hi pxd,

If you can run both MMW5 and MMW4 then you can get more "Duplicate" options in MMW4 using - for example - Magic Nodes.

I run MMW5 on my Windows 11 PC and MMW4 on my Windows 10 PC - on the same home network. I have my library on the Win11 PC and I synchronise a back-up to the Win10 PC. You could run with a single copy of your library and indeed MMW5 and MMW4 on one PC. I just like the "backup" approach.

Magic Nodes has a bunch of "Duplicates". Something like 30 including. For example, Tracks with Same Track#, Title and Artist but Different Album.

Magic Nodes also has a node specific to Album that can be useful e.g. Albums with files having Duplicate Track Numbers.

This Magic Nodes MMW4 add-on is also configurable, available in two versions (free & enhanced) and comes with documentation. You can create you own filters / masks (if one of the ~600 do not quite meet your needs).

IN SUMMARY - use both MMW4 and MMW5 to give you the widest range of library management options.
