I've sent a mail to support and got a reaction pretty fast. It seems that jiri was on holiday and got back this week. I hope that he finds the time to look at the issue.

I think i'll just have to be patience for now :)

(Thats not really a problem. I can organize my files with MediaMonkey and sync them with WMP9)

Just an FYI...
I got a MicroPhoto on July 4.
Media Monkey APPEARS to synch songs, but they do not appear at all on the playlist.

My library was created thus:
Songs ripped wm9 vbr using MediaPlayer9 on win2k
Songs added to a clean library with all default settings on Media Monkey (free version)

When loading up WM9, it shows that 99% of the space is still available, so none of those songs actually seem to have been copied!

I wonder whether it isn't an issue with WMDM layer on your W2K machine. The log shows the following line:

INFO: File: h:\whistler\multimedia\dmd\corona\drm\wmdm\msscp\scptrans.cpp Compiled on Dec 11 2002

which isn't from MM, it looks like some debug version of Microsoft's WMDM. From MediaMonkey's perspective, there shouldn't be any difference in synching on Win2k or WinXP.

Jiri -
Any thoughts on why a newly created Media Monkey database would not synch properly with the MicroPhoto on Win2k? Personally (and technically) XP sux - so I have no desire (or intention) of using it... I'll take the Zen back first!

I'm not sure why it doesn't work for you, try to send me debug logs as described in this post...

Will do... it would be great if MM could 'emulate' that whole mpt crap without the DRM - i mean, synching/photos/video, etc...

As it stands, I can - as the previous posted - put a hunk of files on there using WMP9. MM shows the files as being there, but they do NOT show up at all in any way on the player itself...

I'm affraid you're probably right. It seems that the WMDM layer on W2k is different from the XP version. This is a listing of the files:

Code: Select all

%windir%/System32/drivers/wpdusb.sys
%windir%/System32/mtpiusb.dll
%windir%/System32/mtpsmgr.exe
%windir%/System32/mtpistb.dll
%windir%/System32/mtpsp.dll
On XP there are no %windir%/System32/mtp* files after installing WMP10.

When i'm home, i can check the version of the msscp.dll (from the log) on my machine. The XP machine at work has version 10.0.0.3802.

It's still odd that WMP9 can sync files though.. Maybe try a debuglogrun with WMP9 too..

WMDM - Windows Media Device Manager is a Microsoft software component that enables Windows applications to share and transfer files to and from non-PC devices, such as portable MP3 players, in a standardized way.

how do we find out more about wmdm on our machines? Is there a way to hack MPT so it works on Win2k by putting the XP files onto a win2k machine?

I think that WMDM so closly related to WMP 10+ which if I'm not wrong can be installed on W2k.

wmp10 is XP only, thus the lable on these "plays for sure" product that says "requires WinXP"

I think the important point here is that if WMP 9 can do it then MM should be able to do it.

This isn't necessarily truth, we are dependant on WMDM and WMP 9 doesn't have to use it, it possibly uses some workarounds or tricks we can't.

Don't say "can't", Jiri... say "have not discovered yet"

What about copying the XP versions of those DLLs to a win2k machine? If mine was not critical, I would try... I don't have a spare machine I can play with...
