Ratings on MP3 Player do not match MediaMonkey!
Sorry for the double post, just thought maybe someone in here might have an answer too.
Hello,
I just purchased a Creative Zen Vision:M 30GB MP3 player. I never rated songs before, but i decided to start doing so. I made a synchronization to the ZEN player and rated the songs on the ZEN. When i plug the ZEN in to MediaMonkey and browsed through the songs, i noticed that the songs i rated are all 1/2 a notch lower than they should!
If I rate a song a 3, it shows up as 2.5
If i rare a song as a 4, it shows up as 3.5, etc...
Also, why does MM use a 10 point scale for rating music when the MP3 Standard is 5 points.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thank You,
Adam Lewis
PS - using version 2.5.4.973 (latest beta)

On another note, I don't know the answer to this problem, but you might want to search the forum for other Zen related posts to see if this has come up before.

Adam,
Can you rate several tracks on the device (1 star, 3-stars, 5-stars), synch it, and then send me a device log (MMlog) as described in the 'How to report a bug' entry at the top of this forum?
Also, let me know the names of the relevant tracks, the ratings given, and the ratings that appear in MM.
Thx. That should give us enough info to figure out the problem.

I have the same issue with ZEN Vision:M, ratings do not match the "star-amounts" given in Zen Vision:M, as a result you will see a ZV:M 3 Star-Rated song as a 2,5 Star-Rated song in MM etc.
How is it possible to do the MMlog ?
MediaMonkey is the best program for synching my Zen Vision:M only the rating mismatch + no way to synch ratings/tags to PC + the greyed out option to delete tracks from PC-HDD on synch is bugging me.

Ok guys thanks for explaining how to use the debug-tools,
I'll send you all the files to this adress: support a t mediamonkey dot com
I think I've already found the "problem" with WMlog, here take a look at this pic (this file has been rated with 3 stars (once in MM and once with ZV:M) but it has different rating values)

To make it short:
Mediamonkey rates like this
0 stars = 0
1 star = 20
2 stars = 40
3 stars = 60
4 stars = 80
5 stars = 100
ZEN Vision:M rates like this
0 stars = 0
1 star = 1
2 stars = 25
3 stars = 50
4 stars = 75
5 stars = 99
ZEN Vision:M has no half-star ratings.

That's strange, I checked the source code and MM converts the rating from device to the internal rating using this formula:
MMRating = ((DeviceRating+19) / 20) * 20
( '/ 20' rounds down to the nearest integer), i.e. all the ratings you wrote should be properly converted to MM.
Is the first post here valid for you, i.e. do tracks rated as 3 stars appear as 2.5 stars in MM? I could imagine it's vice versa, but not this way.

Well if I rate the songs on my ZV:M and transfer them back to MediaMonkey, I get the following results:
0 stars rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 0 Stars rated song in MM
1 star rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 0 stars rated song in MM
2 stars rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 1 star rated song in MM
3 stars rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 2,5 stars rated song in MM
etc.
I hope this helps.
0 stars rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 0 Stars rated song in MM
1 star rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 0 stars rated song in MM
2 stars rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 1 star rated song in MM
3 stars rated song with ZV:M
= appears as 2,5 stars rated song in MM
etc.

I mean:jiri wrote:By 'transfer them back to MM' I suppose you mean that you run auto-synchronization and MM automatically takes ratings from device and updates Library, right?
1) I'm tagging the music on my ZV:M
2) then connecting ZV:M to my PC
3) start MediaMonkey
4) browse through ZV:M folders with MediaMonkey
5) select the folder which contains the tagged files
6) the "wrong" ratings appear in MediaMonkey
7) since synching songs/files from ZV:M to PC is not possible (the option is greyed out) I'm cutting + paste the rated songs back to PC, using MediaMonkey
I don't really use the library... I'm used to the old fashioned folder browsing, which works pretty well with MediaMonkey (all my music-files are well sorted/tagged in seperate folders)
Ok, now I understand, ratings weren't properly mapped to MM ratings when you browsed device content (they only were when you used auto-synchronization to update ratings of tracks from device to track on PC).
Here is an updated dll that should fix the issue: http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/d_WMDM.dll

First I want to thank you for taking the time to analyze and fix the issue!
I've tested the new DLL file and got a weird result: the new DLL device plugin shows up in MediaMonkey and activates transfer-mode for ZEN Vision:M (the ZV:M display shows 2 transfer arrows), but it is not possible to access the player because there is no clickable ICON/SYMBOL showing up.
The old DLL file always generated a new SYMBOL/ICON in Media Explorer Tree, to grant access to the connected player.
Thanks for all your efforts, I do really appreciate this
