Album Artist - is this a tag?

Post by munman »

I have been using the Multiple Artist Albums feature, and I have a question or two.

1 . Is the Album Artist an actual MP3 ID tag? When looking for it using Tag&Rename or Mp3TagStudio, I cannot see it. MM obviously sees it. I would like to actually rip and encode it properly if it is and actual tag, instead of dealing with it in MM.

2. When using the 'Change Album Artist' feature, is this actually writing to the Album Artist tag on the files, or just updating the MM database field for Album Artist?

Thanks for the help - Great product!!

The album artist tag exists in the files. It is a feature not often used by other players. But it adds a great way of organizing files.

In my case I list the featured artists in the artist field (so when searching the artist field the feat. artists are found as well). The Album Artist displays the artist the disc is from. For compilation discs various artists is used in MM. This will keep the album node organized.

Hi Lowlander,

Yes, my problem is with various artist albums. I am using EAC and encoding with LAME using --alt-preset extreme. The Artist and the Album Artist are being encoded with the same value - the Artist (track artist). I then have to change the Album Artist in MM. I have not found tagging software that even sees Album Artist like MM does.

Thanks for the reply.
