OK, I finally figured it out. The files had a track volume level set, but not an album volume level. The new 3.0 default is to do volume leveling for each album, so that's why it is going to grind through all the tracks again. There is no reference to album volume (or levelling thereof) anyplace in the help documentation, by the way.GSV3MiaC wrote:But as far as I can see it is auto-analysing files which DO already have volume levelling data stored in the tags (at least the data shows on the track list already). If neither is a wrong approach, I would prefer to use the method that is compatible with foobar/dbpoweramp as they are already established replay gain scanner/taggers, so that I don't have files with differing implentations of Replay/album gain tags.jiri wrote:It's based on differences in how the Track Peak is calculated - MM uses the final values that go to sound card (I'm simplifying a little here) and there certainly Track Peak can't be >1. In order to avoid conflicts in this area, it's good idea to either:Using dbpoweramp r12 I can scan/apply replay/album gain tags to selected files.
If I use MM to scan/apply replay/album gain tags, these tags will be different than what R12 indicates.
When I scan with R12, these gain setting ARE seemingly read by MM but they are different than what is calculated by MM.
Specific example:
Track A with MM tags: album gain: -4.92, track gain: -6.37, track peak: 1.000000 dB
Track A with R12 tags: album gain: -4.94, album peak: 1.133841, track gain: -6.4, track peak: 1.117101
Track A with Foobar 0.9.4.2 tags: album gain: -4.94, album peak: 1.133841, track gain: 1.11701
The MM generated tags is missing the album peak, and the track peak ALL of them are 1.000000 dB.
edit: I cleared all tags and rescanned a copy of this album files with foobar and added the results above. Foobar and R12 calculated and wrote the same tags.
- Directly rip/convert track to mp3 using leveling, i.e. prevent streams where max sample goes to 1.
- Apply volume leveling to already created mp3 tracks in order to decrease gain of such tracks.

Any default setting that alters tracks (or tags) WITHOUT the user first accepting the process is bad news.Diabolic-Destiny wrote:agreedTeknojnky wrote:You have to uncheck auto analyze files with missing analysis.mgillespie wrote:Bug: If I Terminate the Analysing Volume task from the task bar, it keeps coming back....

I'd agree with that, especially during testing. If MM3 wants to write new stuff into the new DB stucture that is fine by me, but once it starts updating tags inside the actual stored tracks then my song data is at risk (and even if it works OK I have a huge backup job - apparently each new alpha release if going to trigger the whole thing again?).
Auto Sync not working
Hi Guys. Alpha 4 won't auto sync to my iriver E10 anymore.
I'm running Vista Home Premium but have tried at work on XP SP2. I open Alpha 4 and configure the playlists I want to sync to the E10. I click the sync icon and in the task bar I see 'Preparing'. This only stays on the screen for about 10 seconds then it disappears. No actual files are transfered to the E10 though. I also tried with my USB flash drive with a random selection of music to auto sync and again no files get transfered.
Any ideas on what I can do to get it syncing again? I am pretty sure it worked once on the E10 but it now won't sync at all
Cheers
Rob

Problem is that we can't implement this without leaving the current WinAmp input plug-in support - these plug-ins directly decode mp3s and return uncompressed audio samples, i.e. any info about samples >1 can't be retrieved.jiri wrote:

We would have to include an own mp3 decoder, which we currently don't due to licensing reasons, not mentioning non-standard handling of mp3 format, not using installed WinAmp-compatible plug-in, etc.
Jiri
Sending a playlist to VitualCD copies all files from my external drive to the default location(C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey\VirtualCD), but tracks are not playable from the VirtualCD node when my external drive is not connected.
They are listed in black but when you click to play one of them they all turn grey.

Ugh. That is really unfortunate.jiri wrote:Problem is that we can't implement this without leaving the current WinAmp input plug-in support - these plug-ins directly decode mp3s and return uncompressed audio samples, i.e. any info about samples >1 can't be retrieved.

I was really looking forward to the automatic/background/albumgain analysis features.
Perhaps it won't really matter with the differences very small, but I am sure that I won't be the only one who really wants to have consistent gain tags throughout the library.
I will still hope for a more compatible solution for the future.

@jiri: Yeah, that's unfortunate. I hope you find a solution. (BTW the winamp-plugins don't work anyway with Alpha 4.
)
In the meantime I'll use other tools to get the gain-values.

have you got these bugs figured out yet. is there something i can add in to fix them or do i have to wait for the next alpha test version?rovingcowboy wrote:Bug: having the mouse over the ratings area on a player

if you use a player that is made to be fixed size the whole
player goes berserk when that mouse is just hovered over the

take a player that is not fixed in size make it small as you can and put it on the left.
put the now playing list to the right docking window besides the player make the now playing large enough
to fill in the dock area,
place the mouse over the ratings area
again and watch the right side of the player go berserk.
does all that with any skin.

Bug: the buttons for play / pause that are called as
" Play " and " Pause " no longer show up.
only the "Play/Pause" button shows up.
also the buttons of shuffle and continous don't and do show up on the same skins the play pause buttons do not,
shuffle shows up on one skin but not continous,
and on another both don't show up.
i'd like the button called as " Play " and " Pause " and the "Continous" and "Shuffle" to work as wanted on some skins such as the converted or redid MM 2 skins that require the two buttons.
