MM goes wild when using Multimedia keyboard media keys

This forum is for reporting bugs in MediaMonkey for Windows 4. Note that version 4 is no longer actively maintained as it has been replaced by version 5.

Peke - I put the code at the end of the players.ini file, saved the file, then did a reboot.
Still the same problem, no change.

Should it be at the end of players.ini? Why would this not be something that would be fixed in a new release of MM?

Thanks for the help.

munman,
Errata: i cannot reproduce the problem (seeking within track is not possible)

Peke,
Just tried your solution:
MediaMonkey=cmd,MediaMonkey.exe,Winamp v1.x,40061,40060,40045,40046,40047,40044,40048,0,1,MediaMonkey
and observed no difference with the one proposed by Jiri:
MediaMonkey=cmd,MediaMonkey.exe,Winamp v1.x,xxx,xxx,39999,39999,40047,40044,40048,0,1,MediaMonkey
Well, to me, all the multimedia keys are ok (MM minimized or not).

It didn't get solved on my PC either.. so I chose not to install the Logitech drives and now MM works fine. It's still an issue that needs to be resolved though, since there are multiple users with the same problem..

I don't have a Logitech keyboard so I cannot try it, but from what I have heard and tried there isn't anything wrong in MM. It properly reacts to multimedia keys, there only seems to be a problem in Logitech drivers - they probably send some strange messages about keys pressed, as long as the drivers are uninstalled all is ok.

Then how come it works fine with all the other media players I've tried?

Hard to say, MM works properly with many multimedia keyboards or keyboard emulators, the Logitech driver seems to do somethings non-standard. If anyone has some more information (namely a debug log, what players.ini file is in use, an exact description how MM works when shown/minimized after next/prev is pressed, i.e. how many tracks are skipped, etc.) we can try to look into it further.

There is some problems as MM detekts MM keys on system based level and not from MMkeyboard drivers. I have same problem when I installed Win XP which recognizes my TurboVision 9001 MM keyboard on system based level, and I do not need any drivers to use MM keys.

Okay I just downloaded the debug version for RC1 and the latest Logitech drivers. In full screen mode everything works fine. When I minimize and it opens "Now Playing", forward forwards 25 songs and back goes 20 songs back. The rest of the multimedia keys work fine.

Not sure how to get a log of this? I don't see it in the menu's anywhere.

Debug log generation is described in http://www.songs-db.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=69

I just don't understand 'it opens "Now Playing"' - could you try to simply minimize MM so that there isn't any window shown (standard minimize button).

I have MM set to open the Now Playing window only (which stays on top and is very small) when I minimize. I just tried completely minimizing it (to tray), and then it skips about 40 songs when I press forward.

Alright I followed the instructions in the post you linked to, but DbgView does not show any information from MM..

One more thing to add to the bug report:
I said earlier that everything works fine in full screen mode, however, I found out it only works fine when the MM window is in focus. When the window is out of focus, it gives the same problem as when MM is minimized to tray.

Sorry I forgot to edit the players.ini file again after reinstalling the Logitech drivers. I've added "MediaMonkey=cmd,MediaMonkey.exe,Winamp v1.x,xxx,xxx,39999,39999,40047,40044,40048,0,1,MediaMonkey" to the end of players.ini and rebooted, rechecked the file to make sure it was still there, loaded MM, but still experiencing exactly the same problems.

I'm using a Logitech Cordless Duo MX on WinXP Pro SP2 (Final).

Well finally i found a little issue (but not Change's one!).

The following sequence works nice:
Pause ... Play ... Next ... Pause

Not this one:
Pause ... Next ... Pause (here this 'pause' does nothing) ... Pause (ok now)

Occurs only when using the 'Play/Pause' button.

When the player is 'currently paused', I think 'Next' (or 'Prev') does not reset the player state to 'currently playing', so the first 'Pause' actually is a 'Play' and then the second 'Pause' is correct.

Erratum: the issue was added by comments in 'player.ini', as i wanted to keep both jiri and peke solutions available in the file (if need be for tests)

So actually this causes problem:

Code: Select all

.../...
#Peke version
#MediaMonkey=cmd,MediaMonkey.exe,Winamp v1.x,40061,40060,40045,40046,40047,40044,40048,0,1,MediaMonkey
#Jiri version
MediaMonkey=cmd,MediaMonkey.exe,Winamp v1.x,xxx,xxx,39999,39999,40047,40044,40048,0,1,MediaMonkey
.../...
Removing the commented lines removes the problem!
Sorry :oops:
