Alpha 5 - Problem with "Maintain Library" function

Post by tvi »

I just tested the following: I removed a directory from my \Music directory using a file manager under windows. Then I executed "Maintain Library". I would have expected that those removed records are now also removed from the library, however:

All removed records still show up in the various views - by Location, Artist, Album, etc. Trying to play one of the removed records is not possible however (as expected). (the "Clear Virtual CD entries for missing tracks" was ticked)

Note: to my surprise this function is also not working in MM2.

Am I missing here something, or is the deletion of tracks "outside" of MM not within its specs?

I noticed this same behavior today after moving files then deleting them using Windows Explorer. After rescanning the affected directory, the new files showed up along with duplicate entries for the old files. So I, too, ran Maintain Library. No change. I closed & restarted MM3A5, again with no change. Finally, I highlighted the old entries and deleted them...

As you will see from the dialogue box, "Maintain Library" does not delete missing tracks from the library in MM. (Many assume it does...)

Use the Files to edit -->Dead Links before maintaining the library.

Do you mean the function "File / Locate Moved/Missing Tracks"? If yes - from its name I would have not guessed that this is covering what I wanted to do (*). And - as you said, that many expect the deletion of missing tracks under "Maintain Library" - I would like to suggest that this function is included there.

(*) I can't test this function, because I have not acquired yet the gold version. I only recently "detected" MM and I am still in the process of verifying whether it fulfills my needs.

No, I mean the node Files to edit -->Dead Links which you will find in the Library section (left panel) This is available in the standard edition too.

Got it - thanks! The removal of the track entries however does not work from there.
