Show/Display certain AMG tags in columns!

Post by thejayj »

This has probably already been addressed somewhere but I hope someone out there is like me and tags their music with AMG (allmusic). I love AMG's service because I get Moods, Themes, Styles, and the Review etc.

So here's my ?. I'm having trouble with Styles & Themes tags. Since AMG uses these tags and MM doesn't include them in the list for column info, I'm having a bit of a problem. So far, moods and comment are syncing and working like a charm. I know about the Custom Fields and renaming them in Options-Appearance. Of course that doesn't get them to show up though. So I utilized the Track Properties Dialog Box to set values for those custom fields for all my tracks. So for Custom One or Style (since I renamed) I have the value %style% entered and so on. This must be wrong because in the columns I'm getting the word %style%, %theme% in the columns for each track and not the actual info from the tags. What's going on?? Is MM capable of doing this or do I have the value wrong?

The custom fields are text fields that contain their own data, not pointers to other fields. If you created new fields in the ID3 tag (or even added other tags) MM will not read/display/write those fields.

What you're getting is the actual data that you put in that custom tag "%style%" .

I'm using a custom field for style, I enter multiple styles like this.
[Style One][Style Two][Style Three]

I chose this over a comma separated list because I can search for/filter on/create playlist from any particular style and not have to worry about styles that are part of another style name.

One worry would be "Rock" and "Album Rock". By using the square brackets, I can search for [Rock] and skip all of the related ones. Bad example because all related styles are likely included in rock, but you get the idea.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count and those who can't.

Unfortunately, what you described doesn't seem to really solve my problem or at least doesn't help me fully understand how to fix the issue. Maybe we can figure this out!

I know that when tagging the files with the AMG script via Web Sources Tagger or Mp3Tag, I can have Style, Theme, and Mood tagged. I want that tag information to be shown in Media Monkey as column information for each song.

I understand about manually putting style tags in or in brackets for different styles but who wants to do that? I'm not into typing such long strings of information, not with my library. I like the Styles used by AMG and since they're in the tag, I would think there would be a way for Media Monkey to display Style and Theme as a column & be able to therefore get the info from the tags. I know how many people love AMG here so I can't figure out why Media Monkey isn't more seamless in working with the tagging capabilities that AMG provides.

If my songs have a style, theme, or even ID tag, I would think there's a way for media monkey to read the info and display it in a column! We need more help!

Answer, perhaps!

Ok, once again the great Steegy has apparently helped answer the question I'm looking for here:

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... t=allmusic

Looking at http://www.mediamonkey.com/sw/webhelp/n ... erties.htm we see that MediaMonkey can read it's own Mood, Tempo, Occasion, Quality id3v2 tags, but that they're not standards.
So that might be why Mood isn't read. Style and Theme are not mentioned in the list and so are not supported, but they will probably be in MM3.

So no Style and Theme listed in columns as of yet. Blasted tagging standards!

Can't we just put AMG at the forefront of a tagging standard and integrate it seamlessly into MediaMonkey. We need a partnership here or something! I just want a button that says AMG - get your tags here! And MM will read/display those tags and integrate the information like clockwork. :) Who's with me?
