Dont download yahoo player! Yahoo should be sued!

Post by sirisa »

Today I downloaded some music. I bought the lifetime Musicmatch plus. When I opened musicmatch a pop-up explained that musmatch will expire on 8/1/07 and that I must upgrade to Yahoo player. Well before I downloaded I did a search and found out that this upgrade is really a downgrade. Thousands of people are very upset. People are losing their music or it wont play at all. Tags wont work and many other proplems. Lots of features are gone. Someone in a forum mentioned mediamonkey and I like it already. I just wonder, if I buy the gold version, somewhere down the road will the same thing happen as with yahoo buying musicmatch?

Hi

Thanks for telling us about that, although I don't think many people that have switched to Mediamonkey will ever switch to Musicmatch.

I don't think MM will get sold to some big company. And even if it does it will be ages away from now.

Everyone knows what happened to Musicmatch when Yahoo bought it, and when AOL bought Winamp. So I don' think the MM devs. will let something like that happen.

Mabye one of the devs. will help you answer your question better.

BTW welcome to the forum :D

Sirisa,

Enjoy MediaMonkey and BUY THE GOLD LIFETIME version. Its real cheap for the value they offer. Personally, I THANK Yahoo for ruining MusicMatch. If not for them, I never would have found MediaMonkey.

MediaMonkey is light years ahead of MusicMatch. Don't forget to download the script by Trix to transfer your MusicMatch Ratings to MediaMonkey. Then just uninstall MusicMatch and just ENJOY MediaMonkey.

As you experiment with it you will find features you would never have expected. For example, they have a playlist which comes with the program which allows you to play seldom played favorites. In addition they have a field showing how many times a program was played. I sort with that field to play Old Time Radio shows and always get the next episode of any series like "Our Miss Brooks."

MusicMatch Downgrade

Post by JLDunn »

I have hesitated downloading MM till now because I was satisfied with MusicMatch. After reading the Yahoo message board about how most people are disappointed with the downgrade I think I will move my 35000 MP3's to Media Monkey.

Does it make sense to wait for the new upgrade before buying the lifetime gold version and moving all my files over?

No, buy the Gold Lifetime NOW! I did and I will never look back. MediaMonkey 2.5.5 is light years ahead of MusicMatch. I also eagerly look forward to version 3. However, personally, I will probably still use version 2.5.5 for a few months after version 3 is released. All new releases have bugs and its best to wait until all the initial bugs have been cleared with the first upgrade patch to version 3.
Cheers,

Mitch

Well, I'm another of those affected by the Yahoo buyout of MusicMatch. I had started with version 5, and had purchased "all future upgrades". I had even purchased a second license for my wife's computer, also with "all future upgrades"; unfortunately, it was just as Yahoo was buying them out.

I had tried Yahoo's jukebox, but the YMP just didn't organize the library the way I wanted, and it even failed to rip CDs properly (it sometimes changed bitrates from a 192 kbps setting to 96kbps without warning). And I hate that Yahoo defaults to showing me ads for their products instead of my library upon startup. MediaMonkey, on the other hand, has been an easy to use, great quality product. I bought my Gold - Lifetime version of MediaMonkey in June as a direct result of Yahoo's push to eliminate MusicMatch, and I've been very happy with my MediaMonkey purchase.
