Multiple Libraries?

Any ideas about how to improve MediaMonkey for Windows 4? Let us know!

I've now used the filters (especially by folder) for 2 months and have to admit it works fairly well. There are a few bugs still to be worked out to make the filter a true filter (I think I mentioned one earlier).

So - kudos to the filter folks.

Still, it would be nice to implement multiple libraries - there is just some stuff I'd rather not be cluttering my library, but occasionally I want to get to it - and I'd rather NOT have to filter it out. I can say that now definitively - given I've worked (and liked) filters for a while.

Its funny as I've been more of a filter advocate myself but now that I'm starting to get into lossless recordings I am very much wishing MM had native Multiple library support. I know I can achieve the same thing with filters but I can't bring myself to put duplicates into my library   .

Actually, that's true for me too - I have a set of flac files, and my mp3s OF those flac files. I really don't want to have them in one mediamonkey library - even though I know I could create filters.

They just "fit my mindset better" if they were totally separate, even in the database(s).

People, please outline this feature and I'll edit the first post with that and add a poll.

Thanks.

I'll give it a shot, though I don't know the format for requesting a feature:

Feature Request for Mediamonkey:

Multiple Library Support:

Currently, MediaMonkey only supports a single library. When you run MediaMonkey, that library is loaded and you can use MediaMonkey. Filters are available to distinguish/show parts of that library.

There should be a capability to allow multiple libraries natively within MediaMonkey. At minimum, MediaMonkey should load a library by default, but that library can be CHANGED while MediaMonkey is running. MediaMonkey should remember which library was last loaded and reload that library when reopened.

All functions within MediaMonkey would act upon the currently loaded library.

Actually, that's about it.

Simplest implementation would be to support a command line parameter with the path to the desired library. No CLI param results in default, ie. the current status.

Or even just a way to give the filename of the library in one of the options screens.

As a long time user of MM, I too, would like to see multiple databases.

Filters are doing alright for the time being.. it took me a while to figure them out and get them working like I want.

I don't know much about programming or scripts (I've tried working w/ them, fwiw), and I'd rather not edit MM files that I would probably screw up somehow. But to all that worked on scripts and stuff, great job! I'm not knocking you in the least. You've helped out lots of people.

But having another database for just my FLAC files, or just for my iPod (synched) files that have been converted to mp3... that would be sooo much easier. I'm pretty picky about my music.. the naming, directory structure, genre, type... everything. And multiple databases would be AWESOME!

Yeah, I am in the same position. I cannot code, and have mp3s and flacs.
MM, give us multiple databases, please. :D

As for duplicates of mp3 and flac for syncing purposes, I don't think multiple libraries are such a good solution at all. I have been doing this for some time now (via 2 networked systems) and the additional management resulting from it makes it too hard to handle.

If you are searching for a practible solution of the "on-the-fly-conversion"-time when syncing, you maybe should have a look at my other post with the proposal of an alternative here.

bye

I started a new thread for MM3 specific applications of Multiple Libraries here as much of the discussion in this thread is related to MM2 limitations.

Multiple Libraries

Heh was looking through the thread for a good solution for multiple libraries. I want to have one library thats strictly for maintaining my Itunes music folder (for my Iphone), and another one for my TomTom.

Well I came up with this solution. I created a new user account in Windows XP and I simply use Run As to run mediamonkey as the other user whenever I want to sync my TomTom.

Yes.

No, thats what the original thread was opened about (native multiple databases in MM).

http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 276#127276 is the latest version.
