I'm using a Smart Playlist now to sync new music to my device, with the occasional manual sync, and I use Auto-Sync only to sync the music and playlists that I know I always want to have on my iPod touch, the whole method works rather well. I still think the way Auto-Sync music selection is carried out could be improved a bit but anyway...

My only issue right now is the way MM seems to handle On-The-Go playlists... Ideally I'd rather MM not touch it at all, but whenever I do an Auto Sync it'll copy my current On-The-Go playlist to a regular playlist (named On The Go1) on the iPod, it'll clear out the On-The-Go playlist, and it'll copy that On The Go1 playlist to MM on my PC. It's a minor annoyance at worst, since generally I just use On-The-Go to add everything on the device and play it on Shuffle (unless I'm using the iPod at a party or something)... But I'd rather MM not touch it at all so I don't have to constantly re-add all songs to On The Go on the iPod and delete that On The Go1 playlist from my PC.

I noticed there's a 'Copy Playlists' option on Device Configuration tab, but that's greyed out... The iPod's On The Go playlist doesn't show up on the Playlist sync tab within MM obviously, and my MM-created playlists will copy just fine to the iPod.
Depending on your iPod model, isn't there an option to just "shuffle songs" without needing the on the go playlist?
And if it just copies the playlist to "on the go 1" you could just shuffle that playlist instead of recreating on the go?

I've got an iPod touch (2g 16GB), and yeah, I suppose you're right... I could just hit Albums and 'All Songs' at the top of the menu, with Shuffle on, and it'd accomplish the same thing as using an On-The-Go playlist with every song added (only have to do that once in a while unless I've specifically queued up some songs either way)...

My quirk with MM creating On The Go1 after syncs is that I imagine it'll create On The Go2 and so on if I don't clean that up, again, a minor annoyance (I should probably test that); as well as copying that On The Go1 to the desktop (pointless).

I am trying to copy music from my ipod to my pc (which has vista). I don't have itunes and my ipod is a 80gb video. I have found info regarding how to do it in certain versions in the support area/documents but nothing has worked successfully. I have around 13k songs on ipod. I have spent several nights trying to figure this out and can't. Do i need itunes? Can you help? thanks!!!

I described how to do that here:

Also I'm not 100% sure but you may need itunes installed in order for MediaMonkey to detect an iPod classic.

Is it possible to make playlists based on existing playlists?

I have a (auto)playlist that I use to sync my iPod Classic 120gb. It uses the custom1 tag to determine what to sync (I couldn't find a better way), and a few other criteria and sorting rules. I want to create few more playlists to be used on the ipod, but I want them to be based on my existing playlist in case I change the criteria later on. Is this possible in MM? I have paid for Gold version.

Yep, use "Playlist is" -> Your Playlist
Then add other criteria and make sure that the drop down says to match ALL of the below criteria.

How can you do this? I always end up with catch 22... I want to sync news (mp4-video) and MM can't do that so I have to use iTunes. I also want to sync some radio program (mp3). Later when I want to sync music with MM, MM will remove all radio podcast since they are in mp3 (videos-mp4 want be removed). OK then I try to subscribe podcast radio with MM and podcast video with iTunes, and no surprise now iTunes will remove (with no question) all mp3 podcast (music mp3 are untouched).

So how should I do if I want to sync both mp4 and mp3 podcasts?

No isn't :(

"Uncheck “Sync all unplayed episodes of:” as below. MediaMonkey can catch and sync podcasts on its own. "

MM can't sync podcast mp4. So my catch 22 is, how to sync music and podcast mp3 with MM and podcast mp4 with iTunes or other products. Drag and drop works for Music Videos in iTunes.

Just drag and drop the video files in iTunes, doesn't matter if they're podcasts or not.

Yes,That works. Drag&Drop is OK for music videos but not for podcast and it's not the same as
Guest wrote:19. You may use iTunes to sync your podcasts
Using drag&drop for podcast means that I have to:
  • mark episodes as watch (or delete) in iTunes
  • delete episodes on iPod
  • drag&drop new episodes
Not a smooth way especially with several subscriptions. So back to my question. How to sync mp3 (incl. podcast mp3) with MM and video podcast (mp4) with product X.

Whats the difference between the Macintosh Ipod and a windows ipod? When i was trying to put music on my ipod for the first time (on a window computer) it told me that: in needed to restore and update my ipod to make it a "windows ipod" because it was a "macintosh ipod". Whatever that means. So, whats the difference?

I believe it has to do with the formatting of the hard drive in the iPod.
