Well so far we value the option to allow annonymous or guest postings. IP's are logged but are relatively useless. The forum is open and approving posts would require a lot of work from forum moderators and admins and often leads to unsatisfied users.

The forum works well and the price we pay is some spam. I'll take that.

and the 'report post' to moderator mod is an option..

I'm working on a 'spam points' mod .. if X users with at least Y posts report a post as 'spam' it'll get autodeleted or moved the a 'bin' forum...

-Users register on invitation only
I think I was thinking something along these lines as well. Maybe if it were possible to get the MediaMonkey program to generate a code that users have to key in before they post. So this way, even if you are a guest and just want to ask a question, you dont have to register. And if the post is detected as spam or marked as spam, the code is terminated and a new one, from a new download of MM will have to be generated. I dont think may spam bots or spammers will want to keep downloading a copy of MM to spam us.

I hope you get what I mean.

that would make monkeys exe huge.

but somethings gotta be done.
:x :x
there were 5 spammers i just sent pm's about to the mods.

2 of which were posted as i was just in the forum..
:o :x
the trouble is one spammer tells another where they can post.

and if they are not blocked they will spam the forum out of any kind of useable place. they don't want to be members they just don't want people using the internet,

so when one spammer finds us they all find us which is why we can't allow guest posting anymore.

You shouldn't stop guests from posting, there would only be about 10 people who would bother posting and five of those would be Keith's alter egos

the spammers themselfs are posting the messages so they are not bots, that can be stopped by them.

spammers wont join because we would beable to hunt them down and in the USA, they are inforcing the anitspamming laws if we catch them. weather or not it goes for online forums i don't know.

I think there should be an easier way for users to tell mods about spam. Although personally I go through all the threads with new messages, especially those posted by guests, to make sure there is no new spam.

I always log in because I like being able to see which messages are new since I logged in, but I can understand that sometimes in other forums I want to just post a quick message and don't want to have to register, however quick and easy they say it is!
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

I don't see any "Report" button/link to even report a bad post/spam.

there is a little icon above the message reply to the left of the name of the reply it looks like a peice of paper.

i right click on that link and save it.

then post it in a pm to the mod of my choice at that moment i try to remember which mods said not to send it to them but i forget most the time who said that?

but that is how i report them.

Yep, its been deleted, I am taking note of the registered users who are spamming. I think it may even be that posters second or third offence. Although it is not up to me to ban members, I only delete the posts. I think we'll be closely watching that poster...
