i thought doing that would work but i was not sure. i had done that a few times and set it in but was not sure if it had caught anything.

thanks for the confirm on that. :)

Just have become ridiculous. Out of respect for MM trying to prompt an error, but it seems that instead I'm trying to prove that I'm not an ass. Strange situation.
Let's go the easiest way.

Create AutoPlaylist - tab Advanced - match ALL (of the following criteria) - Status - is accessible - Sort order: Title - A.. Z

Check. All Titles are in order. OK!

Now add a new Sort order: Bitrate A.. Z

What do we see? Bitrate lined up in order only within the empty Titles and within the same titles, but not strictly in order of increasing from top to bottom, as it worked in previous versions of MM.

Now think for yourself. More proof there is no desire.

4HD: (C:/D:/ - 1TB) (F:/ - 2TB) (G:/ - 2TB) (H:/ - 3TB)
Screen Resolution 1920x1080
MM runs as administrator.

This is how it always has worked. As I said, it sorts in order of the sort criteria. So it sorts by title first, then, where titles are the same it will then sort by bitrate.

I'm not exactly sure what other results you are expecting! If you want to sort by bitrate only, then remove the previous sort criteria by title and sort only by bitrate. If you want to sort by bitrate, then title (ie where bitrates match, sort by title) then sort first by bitrate, then by title.

KJIACC,

I have to concur with Nohitter. Multiple sorts are _supposed_ to work the way he described. i.e. Sort by Title, Bitrate --> First sort all tracks by Title, and then for any tracks with identicaly titles, sort by bitrate.

Roving Cowboy,

I cannot replicate what you're experiencing. Does the problem occur on all of your machines?

have not tested this yet been testing 1274 with other errors.

but mm 2.5. the basic auto playlist will sort as i have typed before.

title.

artist.

album

the title will be listed first in a to z.

then the title is a to z then the artist is a to z

then the title is a to z then the artist is a to z then the album is a to z

but it will not do that in the mm 3.x auto playlists of the advanced or the basic now.

it will only sort by title and keep it in a to z

artist is all random.

and the album is all random.

it won't keep the artist album and titles together

but i'll have to check on the new 1274 version yet.

nohitter151, rusty, now I know why!

It turns out that the sorting rules worked as in previous versions of MM, in 1272 they should be put in reverse order!
That is the reason!
I tried to explain the problem on two sorting rules, and had to demonstrate three or more ...

Try:

Bitrate
Title
Length

And now:

Length
Title
Bitrate

If you and is not convinced, then add another fourth of sort criteria, and then turn them upside down. The results will speak for themselves.

1275 build. Incorrect order of sorting rules remained the same. Sorting rules work only in order: bottom-up.

I'm sorry KIJACC, but this is working exactly as expected with your examples.

Look below.

First image sorted by:
Bitrate
Title
Length

Notice that the bitrates are sorted numerically (low to high = A...Z). where bitrates are the same it then sorts by title (A...Z). Since no titles are the same, Length is ignored.
Image

Second image sorted by:
Length
Title
Bitrate

Notice that the tracks are now sorted by length (low to high = A...Z). where the length is the same it then sorts by Title (A...Z). Again, no titles are the same, so bitrate is ignored.
Image

And I've also just tested the same sort criteria in the "Basic" tab. Results are exactly the same.

Dear nohitter151, in your example the same result as me:)
Pay attention to your screenshot № 1. Rule Sorting Lenght stands at the end of the list, and sorting should occur most recent, namely the length of the track. I see on your screenshot № 1, which Lenght are not sorted numerically.

Why the screenshot №2 length tracks numerically?
But we see here that the last rule that the list is processed - this Bitrate!
If the sequence of processing is consistent, then the first sorting criterion is gradually lost and become invisible, and the latter treated the sorting criterion to reconstruct the previous results according to the last rule!

In all earlier versions of MM result of your example number 1 reflects how the screenshot number 2

I'm sorry but that is not true! I have used MM since version 2.4 and the sort always works this way.

The FIRST sort rule in the list is also the FIRST to be applied.

Yes, the first rule in the list applied in the first place, when it is the only and last. But if the number of rules more than one, the very last rule in the list determines the final appearance and consistency of tracks, rather than the previous rules.
But on your screenshot, it is not so! The first rule in the list is sorted last and the last on the contrary - the first.
I have exactly the same results sorting, so MM works exactly the same. Only you can not understand me the idea that I want to inform you about the logic of sorting in general, and about its consistency, misused MM, in particular.

Can you answer the questions I asked in a previous post?

P.S. Perhaps a lack of understanding comes from the fact that I write here with the google-translator (russian-english). Then excuse me for English

Because "Length A...Z" is the first sort rule. Thus, the first sort is by "Length". It has always worked this way for MM.

nohitter151. i have used it longer then you and i have got the same thing now since i got the gold version the free version worked.
as in following the rules

1. 2. 3.
it would sort to 1. then sort to 2. the sort to 3. and not mess up the previous sort when doing the next sort rule.

i get this gold version and now it only keeps the first sort order. even in your screen shots you show this messing up of the second and third sorts.

i use to sort with album then artist then title this kept them all on the album in track order.
now it wont do that.

i've notice seveal things in the gold version that work differently they are minor ones and only a nitpicky person would notice them. but this sort order is so in your face i can't see how you don't notice it. :-?

i went back and re read your last few posts. i see what your saying nohitter151. but its not right.

sorting should keep the list in the order of sort it did first, when it does the second sort, then keep both them when it does the third sort.

so you sort by artist, then by album, then by title

you should end up with a sort of abba to elvis in first sort and keep it in alpha order.
second short should get album title order of a to z for the first artist in the first sort.
so you won't get an elvis album with abba. only abba albums.
the last sort would be putting the titles on the album in alpha order,

so it should look like.

Code: Select all

abba greatest hits gimie gimie gimie,
abba greatest hits super trouper.
elvis greatest hits hounddog
elvis greatest hits jail house rock

that is how it use to sort in the free version now it sorts any way it wants as long as it keeps the first sort rule in order.
