playlist count of available tracks

I have created a couple of 20-50+ song playlists but in the main was just playing "all tracks" under music on shuffle. I wanted to eliminate classical tracks as I have a classical playlist and also exclude Xmas songs. Looking at the default playlist titles I thought if I added these 2 criteria to "accessible tracks" that would work for me. I was amazed to find that the total number of track in the "accessible tracks" playlist is higher than that of "all tracks" - How is that possible?

Potentially due to
Collections filtering you see less files in All tracks, then in an
AutoPlaylist not following the same filtering.

Thanks for the response Lowlander. I understood the idea of collections, which is why I set up the criteria on "accesible tracks" to eliminate the playing of classical and Xmas tunes. So following that logic I expected the file count to be less on this playlist than on "all tracks" which to my mind should have all the files, as no criteria have been applied. Perhaps I have just missed the logic here. Never mind, I shall assume going forward that the real total is that in accesible tracks. Thanks anyway.

Which Collection were you in when you looked at the file count for the All Tracks node?
In my library the All Tracks node of the "Entire Library" Collection (which has no exclusions) is identical to file count in the "accessible tracks" playlist. Which is expected as I have no inaccessible tracks.

Hello Barry
The collection "all tracks" I access by -home-music-all tracks and the count is 6733 files
The Accesible tracks taken from the "playlist" menu states 6931 files. Hence my confusion.
In addidition, whilst I was typing this reply, accessible tracks just played a Xmas song!
Checked the criteria and both are still in place, bizarre!
I may just be jinxed as I am not getting notifications of replies to my post either, and in my settings I should be.
Media Monkey 5 is not impressing at the moment

All Tracks may be viewing the Music or other
Collection which would be a filtered list of the whole MediaMonkey Library, whereas the AutoPlaylist may take files from the whole Library. This would explain the discrepancy.
If your seeing files in an
AutoPlaylists that aren't expected, it's likely that the Criteria have been set incorrectly.

Appreciate your time Lowlander
On my accessible tracks autoplaylist I have the following text:
Search entire Library
Match all of the following criteria +
Genre doesn't contain Classical or Xmas
Limit box is unchecked
Does the above look wrong?
Also any idea on notifications?

Is the Genre Criteria a single line or 2 lines? Why not use Genre doesn't equal?

Hi Lowlander it is a single line, I will try your suggestion, thanks.

That's odd, for doesn't contain you should have 1 line each for each value. Equals on the other hand can do all values on a single line.

Hi Lowlander
Apologies that this issue is starting to become a saga. I changed the condition to "doesn't equal" and added the genres "Classical" and Xmas" on different lines. However the 4th track on random play was a Xmas song. So clearly something is not working. The track count has dropped significantly, as I might have expected it to, but not sure that this apporach is the way forward. On ITunes I just used to untick the genres I did not play on a regular basis. Clearly, this is not possible on MM5. I could add a screenshot to show you what is happening, but cannot see how to do that on this forum.
By the way I still do not receive notifications when I have replies.

Did you check whether your "Xmas song" had its genre tag set to "Xmas"?

It is possible in MM5 also. Just have have the condition on a single line, with operator set to "Equals", and leave all unwanted genres unchecked.

Adding images to this forum is not very user friendly.
For instructions see
this sticky post.

Another failure of their infrastructure.
The forum seems to suffer a lot of downtime, and I don't get notifications either AKAIK

Hi Yes the genre on the Xmas song was set to Xmas. Maybe I am just unlucky, but there seems to be a number of issues with this program. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Thanks also for the info on adding images. "not user friendly" is being very kind

I have tried a couple of options on the conditional settings to eliminate unwanted genres within a specific playlist, but so far they do not work a 100% My unwanted genres are quite a small percentage of my entire library, so I may just continue as I am. Thanks anyway.
