iPod Nano Update - No more Album Arts

Post by Commerzpunk »

Hi,

I just updated my 1 GB Nano with the new 1.2 Firmware.
And I was trying with Linux on iPod, an i resored the original apple software several times.

Nothing bad, I just wanted to do that to find out more about my iPod.

Everything worked fine, and i restored my iPod to factory default again and started to copy my MP3s to the iPod via MM (2.5.3.968 - Gold).

It works, but i dont get Album Arts anymore. There is just nothing on my iPod, only the tags and the music.

So, i looked in my windows explorer in the folder "iPod_Control" but there was no "Artwork" folder below it.
Now I installed the newest iTunes Software, 6.0.5.20, and checked the option "use Covers on my iPod", imported some MP3s in iTunes and copied them to my iPod via iTunes.

Now I have the "Artwork" folder again and albumcovers appear on my iPod again.

Whats wrong? Is the 1.2 Firmware to new for MM?

Help me :-)

You are right, I studied the issue and this is what I found:

The latest iPod firwmare updater causes after restoring iPod (this step is needed!) that SysInfo file on iPod is cleared and isn't properly filled in again. Therefore MM doesn't know type of the connected iPod and doesn't know that album art is supported.

We hope to resolve this bug of iPod updater (or did it Apple on purpose?) soon, until we release an update, you can edit your SysInfo file manually so that you enter:

For iPod Nano:

Code: Select all

pszSerialNumber: {your_serial_number}
boardHwSwInterfaceRev: 0x000C0005 (0.0.12 5)
For iPod Video:

Code: Select all

pszSerialNumber: {your_serial_number}
boardHwSwInterfaceRev: 0x000B0005 (0.0.11 5)
For iPod Color/Photo:

Code: Select all

pszSerialNumber: {your_serial_number}
boardHwSwInterfaceRev: 0x00060000 (0.0.6 0)

Ok, thanks for the fast and good answer.

Now my iPod is on the way to Apple Care, because its surface is horrible scratched afer few weeks of normal use...

I will report, if i get the device back.

Greetings,

I have a G5 iPod Video & my "SysInfo" seems to have this in it already. It's as if the album art was never there. What else could keep the album art from being transfered over?

Have you tried to start with a clean iPod? It really should work fine then.

Clean?

Define clean iPod... I wiped all my songs off it via iTunes before dropping new songs on it with MM. I'm experimenting with MM... Furthermore, I used iPod updater to update the OS on the iPod.

Cleaning with iPod Updater (called Restore there?) should be ok.

Worked fine...

OK, that worked.... Even though I had the latest OS installed, it allowed me to revert back to the original version OS. Once I did that, I saw all the colors. :D

I'm guessing this is an issue that is being worked on for the next release?

OK, my iPod is back from Apple-Care.

Its still scratched and i feel sad, but i came back with an 1.1 firmware, so backed up my "Sysinfo" file as a first step.

Now I updated via iPod-Updater, and got firmware 1.2 with an empty "Sysinfo". I just deleted the empty file and copied my backup to the iPod.

Now everything is OK and my question is, if i should upload my Sysinfo-File here for other users (with cleaned serial number).

Greets,

You can, but generally speaking the short version of the file I posted above is enough for MM to work well.
