Syncing your 'Plays for sure' device under Windows 2000

Post by robbo »

It's possible to sync your 'Plays for sure' device under Windows 2000. Make sure you have the 'WMDM drivers' for Windows 2000 installed. If you got them, you have to change some options in MediaMonkey.

Go to:

Tools->options->Portable audio devices->[Your device]->Configure->Synchronisation options

There you will find this screen:

Image

Default it's <Title> on the end but you have to change it to <Filename>

After that, you should be able to upload files to your device.

Bought a Creative Microphoto two days ago and what a deception it was finding that it didn't work with W2K.
After a short while I found this driver so I could at least put files on my device:

http://us.creative.com/support/download ... mage1.y=13

But still it only works with WMP9, and that's not really my favorite program. I want to synch with Mediamonkey!

I hoped changing the synchronization options as described by Robbo would be the solution, but that doesn't help for me.

Problem could be WMDM-driver, isn't that (included in) the driver from the creative site I mentioned?

I know that I'm very close to the solution, but I need some little hint I guess. So any advice would be very much appreciated.

You have to provide some more info about the problems you have. Does MediaMonkey see your device? Does it seem to transfer the files? Does it do anything?

Can you provide a log from WMLog (http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7245) and point out what files are transfered with MediaMonkey and wich with WMP9?

Thanks for your quick reply, I will try to explain the ins and outs of my problems in this post.

My problems are quite the same as your problems mentioned here:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... to&start=0

MM does see the device in the music explorer tree, MM can send files to the device, MM can delete files from the device, MM sees files on the device (also files that were put on it using WMP9.

With WMP9 I have full functionality and WMP9 also shows me the files I put on the device using MM.

On the device itself I can see and listen to the files added using WMP9, but the files I uploaded using MM don't show up in any menu or playlist.

I created two logs:

I see that you have destination in MM set as \Music\<Filename>, have you tried \Music\<Artist>\<Album>\<Filename> in order to try to do something like WMP does?

The path doesn't matter. You can put the files anywhere you want in WMP9. I like the path MediaMonkey uses so i added all files this way.

It still seems to have some problems with a limited set of metadata (the ones i mailed you). The strange thing is that if you re-try it with the original plugin, transfering works. It looks like syncing ones with a modded dll sets some settings on the device. I can't figure out why and what.

Windows Media Player and W2K - Playlist handling question

Post by rusty »

Hi,

For those of you that are using Windows Media Player with a Creative Device on Windows 2000: Do playlists synchronize correctly for you?

(In testing this scenario, it seems that playlists don't synch).

neither playlists, nor files. It seems that files LOAD, but they are not accessable to play on the unit. They take space - I've confirmed that using windows media player to view the files and delete them...

rusty,

Did you get the info i sent to jiri (the sources from the modded dll) with the info about the supported meta tags?

It seems that (besides using filename instead of title) the device doesn't support some metatags under windows 2000.

Syncing with the modded dll works under windows 2000.

If you want, i'm availible for a chat session with google talk (or another Jabber provider).

Synching Creative Zen devices on W2K

Post by rusty »

Robbo (and everyone else),

The problem was fixed in MM 2.5.4 RC-2 (available in the beta forum).

'Fixed' is used rather loosely as:
-Playlists are not supported (from what we observed, this wasn't possible using the MTP driver)
-Some devices (e.g. the original/older Creative Vision) lock up after multiple synchs

Please let us know how this works for you and if you have any problems, please let us know with which device.

Thx.
