Proper numeric sorting in tree view

Post by Teknojnky »

When displaying folders with number prefixes, MM sorts them incorrectly.

Windows explorers sorts them in correct/logical order.

It would be really swell if MM sorted these types of folders correctly.

Edit:
It also sorts incorrectly in the list window when sorted by 'path'.

Well it isn't really incorrect, nor correct. It currently sorts as string. It should be an option to sort fields as integer if it starts with a number. This should please both sorting camps.

Sorting numeric directories

Post by rusty »

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but a simple workaround would be to number the directories as 01 instead of 1 (you can do this with <Autonumber:2>

Bug may very well be a too strong word for it, un-desirable behaviour might be better suited.

I can't imagine anyone *wanting* to have the folders/files sorted in non-numeric order.

I'm not sure how autonumber:2 could be applied in this situation, since the folders are arbitrarily numbered (according to vh-1 top 100 albums in this specific example). And since it does not sort properly in the list view.

I suppose it might be possible via manipulating custom fields (if custom fields will numerically pad via <custom 1:2>), however it simply shouldn't be an issue to begin with.
