Photo Management

Post by sayheykid »

Managing photos --
I use Canon Software for getting pics off my digital camera. The software automatically puts the pics in folders with a date name. All pics of the same date go in the same folder.

I love this feature. I like sorting all my photos by date taken.

I hate the Canon software -- and only use it cuz it puts the photos in date folders.

Picasa - let's you name the folder. That's ok. But when downloading 100 pics from 3 different days -- that's some manual management. I want it to work automatically - but want to stop using the Canon software.

Any ideas?

When I was looking for a good image viewer, I downloaded, tried and compared a lot of them, and decided to keep the outstanding FastStone Image Viewer, the one that also theMezz recommends.
It's a very good, fast, advanced and free image library/organizer/converter/renamer and also has a separately launchable viewer (e.g. to view pictures very quickly when browsing your computer).
Extensions: ExternalTools, ExtractFields, SongPreviewer, LinkedTracks, CleanImport, and some other scripts (Need Help with Addons > List of All Scripts).

I generally use Irfanview for the little image viewing/management that I do.

It's free too.

i got rid of the paw photo manager. it was just not as good as it sounded.

i went back to the windows explorer, i just keep picking the folder i want to save in to when i save the photo from what ever program i used to edit it. of course it is easier since i used xteq set up to put a link to the folder i use for artwork in the list of the save window panel.

but that is how i once again do it. 8)

Glad you like it - I think it's really impressive as is fastStone's screen capture utility too. I cannot believe it's all freeware - no spam - no spyware - no ads - it simply works well.

I've been giving FastStone a try over the last couple of days. It's got some nice features. I generally use irfan view but will keep a copy of FastStone.

What's so special about screen capture utilities? Isn't that what your Print Screen button is for? It's not that big a deal to slice'n'dice a screen shot into smaller chunks :-?

I use Breeze Systems downloader pro for getting images off the camera into the folder format I want - which is based on the month and day from the exif data.

I then use Microsoft Digital Image Pro for organising and editing my pictures. It isn't as comprehensive as Photoshop, but much faster and easier to use.

do you know if msdip allows one to keep thumbnails on a hard drive and full size images on a dvd/cd ??? (as an archive)
