new audio format ?

Post by rovingcowboy »

okay whats the gag? i just got some cd's that have a label of audio cd.

where there is to be recordings of historic speach's and documents?

and fully printable files of the text.

when i put it in the computer only thing i could get to work was the pdf files to open and show me the text.?

i clicked on the cdrom and clicked play but only thing that happened was
the time counter and the inducator bar moved showing the track was playing.

but lookin in the explorer of the cdrom there are no cda's or wma's only thing there are some sort of desktop file and ds.dll?

and the pdf files.

none of which are sound files? unless it is is a direct sound dll

but i got no sound?

i did put the cdrom in the portable cdrom player and then i could hear the sound?
just what is going on?
how do i get the sound on the computer?

has anyone seen this type of stuff before? :o :-? :o

Some multimedia CD-Roms have the sound within executables or at least within another file rather than storing them separately, the idea being to stop you copying the sound! You'll need to revert to an analogue recorder such as GoldWave probably.
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.

It's a copyright protection. With a tool like AnyDVD or maybe also the freeware DVD43 the cd will be shown as an audio-cd. Then you can play it normally.

thanks for the good thought but no the cdroms are not from sony.

i did put them in this win xp and monkey was able to play the songs?

but not in 98?

i then ripped them then at the end of ripping monkey tossed up an error accured doing ripping cancle retry ignore , i clicked retry then ignore.

but when i went to the songs in the folder to see what caused the error?
the songs / speeches. they were all there. :-?

i then thought to test them so i started and played them.

got to the last two and found they had added something to the file that messed up the playback and made it skip and play a sparking noise in it all the time and it never got past so many seconds, it always restarted at the point they had wanted it to restart.
so both of the last two were toasted but so were the others i found out later. they just messed up closer to the end after i had stopped listening to them.

so i deleted them all and looks like i have to do the old analog route with them after all. :(

- go to google
- type in the artist and album name and add DRM
- read thru the results and see what protection the cds have and how to work around them

It could be a simpel as rebooting your computer, then holding SHIFT key down when you insert the disc.

Or it could be up and as bad the sony rootkit drm that permanently installs on your computer.

i really don't think it is that bad, because there is no listed artist for the reading of the text. which is why i can't figure out the need for so much drm stuff. they are just a couple cheap cdroms with historical speeches and documents that are being read to you like an audio book.

they did not even come in any plastic case just stuck on a cardbord card.
so why all the spy vs. spy stuff they put on it? just confusing is all. but since analog works as i said i'll do that.

I just "record" them through a CD Player and RCA jacks into my sound card. The quality difference is negligible and I can't tell the difference.
