This is about as off topic as I have ever got in these forums, but I thought you might know.
I have XP SP2 and I wanted to know If there was a way to make Windows go into stand-by mode when it is on the welcome screen? I really think there is no point wasting energy with moving parts like the fan etc. when nobody is using the computer.
Now I know you are probably thinking: "Why doesn't he just shut down the computer if he wants to save energy"
The only reason really is that there are constantly people going on and off the computer and Booting up takes a while on our computer.
So if anybody knows I would be thankful.

Stand-by on welcome screen

You mean that Windows doesn't go in Standby Mode when the Welcome screen is up, even if you correctly enabled Standby Mode in the Energy settings? Does Hibernate (also quite fast, and completely shuts down the computer) work correctly?
