How can I create new playlist with randomly selected tracks

Post by head4heights »

How can I create new playlist with tracks selected randomly from another playlist (or lists)? Having rated all my tracks worthy of such an accolade and put them all into a single playlist, I'd like to either:

(a) re-order the existing playlist randomly
or
(b) randomly order the playlist and output it to a another playlist.

The new playlist would, or course, only have one instance of each track in the original playlist.

I could then burn these tracks to a CD (or whatever) for playing in the car (for instance).

Forgive me if this question has been asked before - I have had a look in the forums but either the answer is "no, can't be done" or reference is made to some cunning feature of MM that it frankly beyond me :( The v3 feature list, again after a fairly swift scan, doesn't seem to admit to functionality that would meet my need.

Heeelp!!

This is the helpful reply I got from Rik Lewis (many thanks Rik)... I've tried it and it seems to work.

Well I don't know about a script, but here's how I'd go about doing it myself manually.

1) Select the playlist node in the tree
2) Select all tracks and click "Play now" (ensuring that either your settings clear the Now Playing list first as mine do, or that you've cleared the Now Playing list first)
3) Select the Now Playing node in the tree
4) Right click on the main window and select List --> Randomize List
5) Right click on the main window and select List ---> Save Playlist
6) Click the "New Playlist" button and enter a new name.

Hope this helps! :)

Glad I could help! :)
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.
All the code for my website and scripts is safely backed up immediately and for free using Dropbox.

While the work around may work, its very inconvenient. Basically you have to interupt your exist now playing which is aggravating.

I've asked about having a 'randomize this playlist' menu added to the playlist context menu's but nothing come about it yet.
