MM3 Alpha 5: Volume analysis decode errors

Post by Perth »

I created a small library that contains several artists stored using different audio formats. I initiated track/album volume analysis at 92db with the following results:
- mp3 OK
- flac OK
- ogg OK
- mpc OK
- ape = decode error
- mp4 (apple lossless) = decode error
- mp4 (nero aac vbr) = decode error

In both mp4 cases the errors were generated by MM3 indicating a possible DRM error. However, it seemed to occur randomly on only one or two files in each album set (for both apple lossless and nero aac cases). The rest of the songs in each set decoded fine. I encoded the mp4 files from mp3 files I already had using dbPowerAmp so there shouldn't be any DRM (at least I hope not).

In the APE case, the error occurred a couple of times generating a dialog from the Monkey's Audio 3.99 codec, followed by a MM DRM error dialog. The second time the APE error occurred, the Monkey's Audio dialog and the Decoder.exe process froze and had to be manually killed. MM3 continued to run fine. The wierd thing is that MM shows successful results for the volume analysis. Both the track and volume levels look real.

I captured the images of the dialogs if they are of any use.

Is it the default MM 3.0 alpha 5 installation? If so, please e-mail us the tracks.

Thanks,

Here's the result of my analysis:

- APE track - really has bitstream errors and thus cannot be properly converted.
- M4A tracks
- none could be played by QuickTime player
- ALAC track can neither be played by WinAmp, the other tracks can be

Since the default AAC plug-in installed with MM is based on QuickTime, we can't do anything about it. Note that later an alternative AAC plug-in will be available for MM and then the tracks created by Nero will be playable in MM.
