Arbitrary Extensions and Helper Applications

Post by heronheart »

As I understand it, MM will only catalogue files which it's capable of playing. I would like to be able to add arbitrary file extensions and then have MM open them in a designated "Helper Application" when it comes time to play them. For instance, I could catalogue my FLV files in MM and have MM open them in VLC media player when I want to watch them.

Also, would it be possible to get an option to "Minimize to Taskbar MicroPlayer"?

I apologize for the flood of feature requests, it's just that I'm very excited by this Beta. I understand that coding new features is often time consuming and not every good (or not so good idea) can be implemented.

Heronheart,

I like the ideas, but it'll have to wait post MM3.0. We've got to focus on stabilizing what we have and getting this released.

Just the ability to scan any file format (without playback support) would be good for me. This will allow me to use WebMonkey for other filetypes as well.

I don't like the idea of scanning other file types.
After all, MediaMonkey is a music management system. Not a file manager.
Skins for MediaMonkey: Cafe, Carbon, Helium, Spotify, Zekton. [ Wiki Zone ].

But it is called MediaMonkey not Music Monkey, I would love to use it for sorting and playing video files also. The limited video plugin available is alright, but I have had hit or miss success with it in the past. I'm not complaining, I've just started looking around for some type of video organizer, and thought I would check to see if MediaMonkey had anything better to offer me yet.

Thanks a lot MediaMonkey team, it is definitely and great piece of software.

But first A, then B, even if it's called "alphabet". :P
