synchronizing tags is slow

Post by b0b0b0b »

Hi, using 2.2 final I noticed that synchronizing id3 tags is slow, and looking at task manager, monkey is reading & writing lots and lots and lots of data.

In my environment, my mp3's are on a network drive, as is my .mdb.
--windows xp, sp1
--netbios disabled
--mp3's are on a UNC path, e.g., \\machine\drive\blahblah.mp3

Using sysinternals.com filemon, I could see that the generation of the .mp3.XXXXXX temp file was happening in 512 byte chunks (whereas moving from .mp3.XXXXXX to .mp3 happens with 65536 byte chunks).

I downloaded the id3lib.dll windows binary from sourceforge and noticed that it is a different size from the one shipped with mediamonkey (although apparently the same version). It seemed to be much slower.

Could id3 performance be improved?
Thanks

you can on the bottom of the media monkey program after you tell it to sync. the files on the status bar it gives you in media monkey right click it and pick the highest priority it will make it faster. as for the amount of data i think that is just the amount of info, your files were out of sync? might be wrong on that but i think that is what it was.

try the highest priority it really hauls a... on a winxp system.

I'm not sure if increased chunk size will increase speed, but it could in some cases. I will be increased in the next release.

well i know it worked on win98, with a pent 2. 266hrz cpu. and it worked on winMe with a amd althon 1.4 or 1.5 ghrz cpu (i over clocked that one some ) and it works on this winXp home with a pent 4, 4.25 ghrz cpu.

as to weather it works on any other os's or hardware i cant say :-?
