Multiple Libraries/Databases

Post by munman »

After much research, I just purchased MM. It is the best, without question. In addition, it seems that the desire of the creators is great, and that they listen to their customers ideas. :D

My wishlist item (forgive me if this is already on the list, but I did a search and it didn't jump out) is for multiple libraries. I use EAC and LAME to rip and encode MP3's and I have a need to keep files in separate databases.

Sorry if this has already been suggested.

MM is awesome! Keep up the good work![/u]

It is on to-do list but only demand from users like you can make that this feature come to light.

Demand is noted.

Thanks much.

Multiple libraries may be one of the few things that are missing in MM.
Helium has this feature, and it works great.

Thanks for the reply.

Yep, it has been requested.

Some users have local and network/portable databases. And DB switching would help greatly.

In my case I would love if MM looks for the network/portable DB and if it isn't found it will look for the local one.

Furthermore an interface for DB switching would be very helpful.

If the only way to get the feature of multiple databases is enough people asking, here's one more request.

Please, implement database switching and multiple databases, it would be great.

I have stored all my CD-information in MediaMonkey. Would love to store my MP3's in a different database with MediaMonkey. I have some reasons for keeping these separated.

Hello,

I've been asking for multiple databases over a year ago.

Please make it a priority for the next release, because it's a feature I always wanted
Tnx

yes i agree we need multiple database/library.
currently i have 4 databases and everytime i open MM, before opening i change the one of the database name to default mediamonkey.db in the my music folder
i have databases with english songs in one, hindi movie songs ( my national language ) songs in others, hindi non-movie songs in third and all classicial indian and foreign ( violins / saxophones/ piano ) etc in 4th database
it would surely help us if we didnt have to do what i do everytime i open MM

Perhaps, as a 1st step, the developers could add a command line option to specify the starting DB (overriding the possible "DBName" option from the .ini). Hence you could create a shortcut for each MM "configuration":
- mediamonkey.exe /DB "c:/my docs/music/mediamonkey.mdb"
- mediamonkey.exe /DB "c:/my docs/soundtracks/mediamonkey.mdb"
- etc

@ hindisong

You could use the custom field to define the songs into one of the 4 DB categories you currently maintain. This would allow you to use one DB with all songs in them.

One more request for the multiple-database feature from me!

as a dj i need one database for song-research and organization on my laptop and one database for my mp3 at home, where i would like to organize all my music with mediamonkey of course. another database with information of my cd-collection would also be great.

keep up the good work - MM is great! :D

Multiple database is on the top of my wishlist too. I'd like to have a separate MM in the hd where I store mp3 downloaded that need sorting before I put them with my organised music library. (Sorry for my poor english)

And a nice word for the developers of the program: Great job guys, thnx for creating such a great program :D

Yes, database switching would be very nice, also if it features selecting a database cross the local network. I have my own personal PC loaded with music and a Mediacenter somewhere else in the network. MM plays it fine, but keeps a separate db on both of the machines. I would like the Mediacenter to play from the personal PC's database

I also add my demand for multiple db capability. I use my PC with my fiancee, and she listens to very different music to me. I would like to have one db for me and one for her. The ability to login as a user when you start the player, thus choosing your own skin, layout, scripts AND database, would be awesome. It would also mean my db wouldn't be loaded down with her music, making it troublesome to browse.
