B4: Background levelling reports wrong # of tracks [FIXED]

Post by shotofadds »

If I go to the Files To Edit -> Unleveled node, MM reports there are 2175 unleveled tracks, however if I enable Background Volume levelling the status bar shows "Analyzing Volume 1 of 4632"...

There are only 2658 tracks in my library :-?

It probably will be easiest if you e-mail us your MM.DB file.

this also happened to me the other day, when i added 815 but the progress bar reported 1524 unleveled tracks.

I thought this was a problem with my database as well, but I think the count includes the number of individual tracks which are being levelled as well as the number of albums that are being levelled. I could be wrong, but that is what is happening with my database.

It'll be Release Candidate #1 (aka RC1) I assume.

Fixed in RC1 - but there is still a discrepancy:

The "Unleveled" node shows all tracks where the Track Volume tag is missing, but the Background Levelling acts on all tracks where either Track or Album Volume is missing.

Not a problem, but might still confuse some people!

Another volume levelling-related problem: selecting an album and choosing "Level Track Volume" results in any existing Album Volume tags being messed up - shouldn't these be re-calculated?

Level volume and Album Gain

Post by rusty »

The Album Gain co-efficients _are_ being recalculated--that's why they're no longer identical. To test this out, try re-analyzing the volume of the tracks (change the option so that volume of already analyzed tracks can be re-analyzed) and you'll see that it won't make any changes to the co-efficients.

Hmm, that's not the behaviour I'm seeing, eg:

1. Select a whole album and Analyse Volume - album volume is now identical for all tracks (-4.0db).

2. Select the whole album and do Level Track Volume - the album volumes are now all mixed up.

3. Select the whole album and re-Analyse the volume - the album volume is recalculated for all tracks (-0.2 db). This is the behaviour I would have expected after step 2.

Album Gain

Post by rusty »

Let me correct myself:

Step 1 and 2 occur exactly as they're supposed to (as you describe).

i.e. the album volume would have to be 'mixed up' if it were to reflect the original album's volume levels (since the track's volume levels after 'level track volume' are no longer reflective of the relative track volumes on the original album).

Step 3 should occur as you describe as well (in contrast to my original statement). i.e. if the user tries to re-analyze the tracks, MM has no way of 'knowing' what the original relative track volumes were, so it would have to create a 'unmixed' Album Volume co-efficient.

Hope that's clear.
