Unused Artists [4123]

I'm using v 3.0.0.1089. When I check Remove Unused Artists in the Maintain Library dialog, the application may remove unused ALBUM artists, but not unused TRACK artists.

I don't... I finally cleared my database and re-imported all my media. It was quicker than going through and deleting all the unused artists manually.

I'll tell you how it happens, though: You rip music, and that creates a few track artists in your list. Then you Ctrl-L to download track data from Amazon, and many of those track artists get replaced, but they do NOT get deleted from the artist list. Over time, you wind up with a large number of artists not associated with any track.

You know they're there when you click on an artist in the Artist node and no tracks come up. When you use the maintenance function to delete unused artists, these orphaned track artists don't disappear.

I have this same issue - unused artists simply are not removed as they should be using the library maintenance. Is it working for others? What are possible causes if it is working for some and not others? Or is it just a bug with the beta?

I'm curious is that related to <Album Artist>, if Album Artist exist with faulty name you corrected for artist using Amazon maintenance will not clear that artist as it actually exist but under Album Artist.

I think this may be referring to the fact that e.g. in the Properties dialog, both Elvis and Elvis Presley remain as options in the Artist/Album Artist combo boxes--despite the fact that all entries for the former have been removed.

Note that this problem goes away as soon as MM is restarted. i.e. a restart will clean up any 'extra' Artist/Album Artist entries that have accumulated over the course of using Auto-tag from Amazon.

Adding this as a todo.
