Zune 2 Support

Post by fishfuzz »

Well, I've slid even further to the dark side. First, it was a Zen, then an iPod Classic, then back to a Zune 2. But I don't see any sync options for MediaMonkey! Any chance of this?

The Zune is closed, it can only be synced with the Zune software right now. Until someone can emulate how the Zune software synchronizes with the Zune, (no one has done this) it can only be synced with its own software.

fishfuzz, how do you compare the zune2 with the ipod classic? i have a 160gb ipod and i hate it. it never had any of the problems i've seen in other forums, it's just the interface, the looks, the fact that it's an ipod ... i was thinking maybe if microsoft released a 160 zune i'd move on to the zune 2

So far, I like the Zune. If I could only sync my music with MediaMonkey...

The iPod had a number of issues: a) the new design is too slick (meaning it doesn't stay where it's put) b) sharp edges on the case c) poor audiobook support for personally created audiobooks d) a little laggy (both the iPod and the new version of iTunes)

The Zune has its own set of problems, but since I had a Creative Zen Vision:M, it's not as bad. 80GB is plenty o space for me right now.

Now back to the topic at hand: Zune support.

I've done some investigating, and have been able to successfully add files to the structure of the Zune, and have them appear on the unit once it was disconnected from the PC.

Using the reg. hack to make the unit appear in Explorer, if you sync a large file and then terminate the zune.exe application via Task Manager, the unit essentially goes into a infinite sync loop, keeping the device unlocked. I then navigated into the music directory, added an .mp3 to an artist folder that wasn't already there, and then disconnected the device.

Sure enough, the song was there! Now if we could just get MediaMonkey to do something similar....

I too, love my Zune. I think the hardware and the screen and the overall 'experience' with the device is great, but the software does suck horribly.

I really like MM (much more functional than Tag&Rename, which is what I have been using up until now) and have registered for the Gold version to show my support as a user - now I hope that MM can make something happen for us Zune owners.

The Zune can now be sync'ed with MM using a work-around. I have written a fairly extensive guide on how to do so - see here.
