RC2 Update MM2 to MM3: Cannot convert db [F3991 RC3]

Post by skst »

Not much more to tell. I installed MM3 RC2 on a machine on my network that accesses music files over said network but has a local database. Every time I try to start MM3, it says "There was a problem with updating database to the newest version."

Can I give you more information? I can upload a copy of the db if you'd like (either to your site or to mine).

Update: Assertion failure after that at C:\sources\mediamonkeyrelease\mp3datab\classes.pas line 9902. I sent in a report. There was another assertion after that, and I sent in another report.

Hi,

I get the same error message when I try to start Version 3.0 RC2: "There was a problem with updating database to the newest version"
I have 2.5.5 installed on the machine (which runs vista).

The mdb file is located an a different partition. I changed the ini file to do that (DBName=...mdb)

I also deleted the ini file like the f.a.q. section says on this problem.

perhaps its related to my post @ http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22598

where my static playlists are not working from a freshly imported mm2 database (imported with rc-2 dbupgrade.exe).

I used the dbupgrade.exe tool to upgrade my existing 2.5.5 DB and now the RC2 Version starts up successfully.

It's 18M, so I'm using yousendit. About 5 minutes.

rusty, I won't try anything until you give me to go-ahead. Let me know if I should try dbupgrade or something else.

Database conversion problems

Post by rusty »

I received files from tekno and skst and replicated the problem(only with tekno's file). Thx--we're looking into this.

skst, I don't seem to have received the debug log that you sent me. Can you resend it?

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my e-mail to you, RC3 (1109) didn't fix the problem for me. Do you need the database again or any debugging information?

I have had same problem with upgrade to new database, using RC3 (just downloaded). I have approx 41,000 songs cataloged. I can send DB, it's 54MB, let me know if you want this sent or already working on fix.

BTW - I uninstalled an then reinstalled MM3, didn't get a prompt to convert the DB on the subsequent re-install. Is it supposed to prompt to convert for each additional install?

You need to delete the media monkey folder found in C/user/appdata/local for a clean install

Thanks - cleared that and re-installed. Same problem, tells me there is problem and suggests I rescan my hard drive. Strangely, I let it do it's thing and the splash screen doesn't clear. I see in the Windows Task Manager that DBUPGRADE.EXE is running, I'll let it run and see what it does, maybe despite the error message it is converting?

Welp, even though I had an error message on the database convert the conversion did run (DBUGPRADE.EXE was noted as running in Windows Task Manager and after many minutes the splash screen disappeared and MM3 application displayed). Suggestion that when conversion is occurring there's more than just the splash screen displayed, some type of progress message should be displayed.

I'm re-scanning my drives (about 1/3 the way) but looks like all the ratings and such converted despite the error message.

Conversion didn't go without problems. After converted and rescanned my drives I went from having 41K files to 71K files - lots of files now found as duplicates (about 30K). Deleting the MM3 database and letting it convert again to see what's up, but something went awry with my conversion starting with the error message on the initial DB conversion and then to the rescan.
