Auto Organize doesn't delete empty folders [1933]
I have noticed that even when when you select the option to automatically delete empty folders while using Auto organize it doesn't work. I have tested the about 4 times now. I'm not sure if this has already been documented or not, but it just came to my attention.
Auto-Organize problem
Crayak,
I can't reproduce this. on my machine, the folder is deleted IF:
-Any artwork linked to the file has been moved with the file
-No other tracks remain in the folder
-No other files (hidden or otherwise) are left in the folder
Can you give me more info re. exactly how you reproduce this?
Thx.

Right now I have man albums that have multiple albums. I accidentally used Itunes to organize my library awhile back, so all the albums with multiple artists are organized Artists feat X\track, and so on. When I go into MM3 RC2 and search for a album title lets say the 8 mile sound track which as man artists. I select tools>auto organize I can see in the preview that the Alums tracks are scatter all over my music folder, I have setup MM to reorganize based on album artists\album\tracks.mp3 when I go back into my music folder I see see some of the folders that once contained a single track from the 8 mile albums. Besides that the only thing else I can say is that maybe this is happening because I'm using Windows Vista.

I recently did a major re-organization and was also left with empty folders. I downloaded a program that searches for empty folders and it found none. Seems Vista stores some info in the folders (folder.jpg ???) that makes it appear empty to the user but not to programs that search for empty folders or programs that are suppose to delete folders that they have emptied (MM). So, seems to be a Vista issue and not a Monkey issue.

I am still getting the following error with the latest version of MM3 (3.0.0.1105):
"Cannot delete {folder path}. Access is denied. The file may be in use or may not have access rights."
I have auto-organize with delete empty folders enabled. This occurs during the startup scan, when auto-organize moves an MP3 out of a folder, leaving it empty. While this dialog box is up, Process Explorer shows that MediaMonkey has a handle open on the folder with the specified path. Clicking the dialog box's "retry" button causes the error to repeat.
This is on Windows XP SP2.

I think you hit the nail dead on. It seems to be a Vista only issue. I also downloaded a program that is supposed to find empty folders and delete them, which didn't work. I don't know if a Vista bug, or just an issue with Media Monkey, and other programs not being coded to access the Vista file system properly. I'm pretty sure the file system in Vista is a little bit different then XP. You guys do amazing work, keep it up!drjboulder wrote:I recently did a major re-organization and was also left with empty folders. Link files aren't deleted
Hi,
I just tested this out with tracks that have many linked artwork files, but couldn't reproduce the problem.
Can you tell me the attributes of the files that weren't deleted/moved? (right click on them in Explorer and click Properties).
Thx.

For some reason it doesn't happen to ALL folders. Here is the contents of a folder, after the move, but the directory was left behind
C:\Users\Public\Music\Ab Logic>attrib
A SH C:\Users\Public\Music\Ab Logic\AlbumArtSmall.jpg
A SH C:\Users\Public\Music\Ab Logic\AlbumArt_{080C0CDB-EC14-4EF0-BB1A-9F

A SH C:\Users\Public\Music\Ab Logic\AlbumArt_{080C0CDB-EC14-4EF0-BB1A-9F
496E5D06F9}_Small.jpg
A SH C:\Users\Public\Music\Ab Logic\Folder.jpg
Hope this helps, can't see much of a patern. I'll do some more tests to see if I can come closer to the issue.

These are most likely Album Art files added by Windows Media Player that were never picked up by MM and linked.

album art files not deleted
joejoe,
For the album art files that aren't deleted, when you right-click Properties, what attributes are checked off? (e.g. hidden/read-only/etc).

Same issue on XP
Hi,
I'm having the same problem on WinXP SP2. How it all happened:
- Used to organise tracks with iTunes, so all compilations went under MP3\Compilations\Album\...
- Installed Monkey, added Auto-Organise rules and let it scan at startup (Just to re-organise all existing tracks).
- Noticed all mp3s that were under MP3\Compilations have been moved to MP3\Artist\Album\...
- Renamed all these albums' Album Artist to 'Various'
- Enabled 'Delete Empty Folders', restarted MM to rescan the folder.
- Error "Cannot delete {folder path}. Access is denied. The file may be in use or may not have access rights." pops up. Folder path obviously being the 'old' Artist\Album folder.
I checked those folders and they are barren and empty (Yes, I show hidden and system files).
Any ideas what may have gone wrong? When I do a startup scan these days it doesn't even try to delete the folders...
