I cant get the same 'count' of files using MM3 1109.
All my Music files are on a dedicated NAS Drive. All are MP3 except for 1 M4p file.
I have rebuilt all libraries several times to check the numbers.
This is what I am getting.
MM3-1109 lists 17124 files.
MM3 Track Browser then shows 2613 Artists and 1186 Albums
MM3 Stats then shows 4443 Artists and 1205 albums. A massive difference. WHY ? HOW ?
MM2.5 lists 17123 tracks. (running on a dif PC -the .m4p is the missing file - I assume)
MM2.5 Track Browser isnt applicable.
MM2.5 Stats shows 2631 Artists and 1204 Albums. Again different to MM3.
iTunes shows 17123 tracks. 2601 Artists and 1183 Albums.
XP windows listing of the drive shows 17132 files. (8 more)
Vista Windows lists 17132 files.
I am 100% confident there are 17132 files.
For those of us with large collections (and I dont think mine is that large a collection) this has to be a concern.
Am I misundertanding how things are counted ?
What can account for these differences ?
How can I find the uncatalogued files ?
Any suggestions ?

Well, I'm going to assume that the 8 missing files are either:
unsupported files for Mediamonkey,
tracks that meet the 'Ignore Tracks' criteria (in the library options)
corrupt files
or hidden files
As far as differences in Album/Artist count: I don't know if the stats report can be entirely trusted. Mine lists 741 artists in the library, but only 729 played, although I can confirm with 100% that all of my tracks have been played in MM. Also, my track browser lists that I have 397 artists (I believe this is the accurate number).
As far as the differences with iTunes, I again would have to assume that it reads the artist/album artist info differently than MM does and/or that your tag data in iTunes doesn't match exactly what info appears in your MM db.

MM3 RC4.
Still have 8 files missing. have concluded this is NOT a RC4 issue. So have posted in general forum.
Not sure if the Stats is RC4 or not.
I want to trust these reports but need to understand HOW it is counting.
Can anyone explain why there are differences.
Browser view shows Artitst as 2690. Stats report shows Artist =4520
Is this maybe to do with Compilations ?
Browser shows Albums as 1192, Stats report show 1212. Thats a 20 Album difference ? Where are they ?
Genre counts match in Browser and Stat report.

stats inconsistency
Fixed in RC5 for Artists and Albums. Note that there will still be some inconsistencies. The reason is that 'Artist 1 - Greatest Hits' and 'Artist 2 - Greatest Hits' are two albums for Statistics report, but it's only one 'Greatest Hits' string for Track browser. I guess that it makes sense though...

Mmmm.. for the browser view .. yeah I guess thats the way all browsers would do it. Although personall I'd prefer albums to be treated as separate entities.. which is what they are. But DB's dont work that way as easily.
But, an Album is an Entitiy. It isnt a merge of all albums with the same name. I need to check the synching cos RC2 or RC3 synched albums as if it was Browser mode. Ao Albums such as 'A Night At the Opera' on my ipod was ONE album containing a mix of Opera Tracks and Queen Rock tracks.. not what I was expecting when I selected the album for play. But an interesting combination none the less !!!

Synching Compilations
quofiend,
Not sure I understand: when synching compilations there's a different entry for each one. e.g.:
Greatest Hits (Queen)
Greatest Hits (The Cars)
etc...

I did a count with several apps and also see that MM3 RC6 doesn't show all the files that are present on Harddisk.
I have selected only MP3s in this test, so I excluded OGG, WMA, etc.
Full rescan has been made.
My collection:
According to explorer: 46943 MP3s
According to MM3 RC6: 46933 MP3s
According to Winamp 5.5: 46943 MP3s
It seems that 10 files are missing in MM3.
If only I could find out which ones are missing. I try to figure that out.
