MM=2 spkrs, but iTunes=4 - what gives?

Post by Hank Handsome »

Hi

I've checked the Surround Sound FAQ and the useful topic on configuring 5.1 surround sound, but neither one has helped solve my problem. I also noticed another similar query to this, as a result of a forum search, but there was no resolution on there either...

I've configured all the WinXP Control Panel settings and the config software for my built in sound card and my 4.1 speaker system works fine in iTunes and Windows Media Player - I get all four speakers working and the sub-woofer unit.

In MM v2.5.4.978 I only get 2 speakers working. I've also tried the v3 beta and that seems to be the same. I've changed the output plugin to Directsound and that made no difference.

Do I need a third party output plug-in and if so (a) which one and (b) why?

Why is this such a problem with MM? When iTunes and Windows MP both work without any configuration at all.

Nothing will persuade me to change from MM, it's absolutely the best PC music management system out there. No other program comes close. It just I would like my music to sound like it should - coming from all my speakers.

Please someone help! :)

Cheers

2.5.5.998 is the latest/last version of mm 2.5, normally setting the output plugin to direct sound and making sure that "allow hardware acceleration" is enabled in the direct sound plugin configuration is what allows the multichannels to work properly.

If that is already correctly set, then sorry I don't have an answer other than checking your computer/sound card manufacture for updated sound drivers.

(works properly for me on all my systems)
