MM3: Playcount depending on song length?

Post by marutti »

Hi! I' ve been through a lot of threads discussing the playcount's behaviour in both MM2 and MM3. To sum up, we know 2 facts for sure.

In MM2, a song will be counted as played, as long as you listen to (any) 1/3 of it, or pause the song for the same amount of time.

In MM3, it is the same case except that the end of the song must be played also, and the "pause" thing seems to be gone.

But today I noticed a weird behavior in MM3 about songs that are less than three minutes in duration. I just push play and skip to the end of the track and the playcount gets +1. It seems that tracks less than three minutes long don't need the 33% "listen time" to be counted as played.

I searched the forum in case anyone has reported this, but I couldn't find anything. So here comes the first question: Has anyone else noticed this (or is it just me lol) ?

Secondly, I noticed that many users have expressed their preference to the MM2 system or an alternate user-controlled one, so is there any "official" statement about this? (any consideration or development maybe? or should I stop thinking about it?) Links would be appreciated! :D
Thank you very much!

Could not duplicate with the version in my sig.

Played Ray Charles - Hit The Road Jack (Studio), a two minute song, forwarded at 30 secs, did not get counted as played.

Marruti, you are right.

In MM3 there is increased playcount everytime the end of the played song is reached (and you listened at least 1 minute of the song or the song is shorter than 3 minutes). This behaviour (need to reach the end) is preferable in MM3 because of podcasts and audiobooks which need to be listened whole to be considered as played. I guess we are planning to imrove it somehow for the feature versions, something is already in our bug tracking system.

Yeah I have found the same.
Only I dunno about the under 3min criteria.
But definitely some songs got counted after being started, played *a bit*, and subsequently moved along the seek bar and played through the end.

This is what I want to happen. I hope it is not changed without the ability for the user to specify their own settings. :)
