Is Reverting back to original Metadata Normal?

Post by thekidkid »

So I've been using MM for a while now but something that has really been bothering me is every once in a while, a lot of my tracks revert back to the data that was associated with it before I changed it. I have a Yahoo music subscription and all of the tracks come labeled with artist, genre etc. The main thing I change is genre, as usually it comes labeled as something crazy, so I only have about 10 genres in my library. Every once in a while though, I notice there are about 30 genres and everything is back to the way it was before, including album names and everything.

I have a very organized library and this is very aggravating, and will probably draw me away from MM (that and the fact it has to put every single song I own on my mp3 player when I sync)

Anyway, my real question is is this a normal function? If I remember correctly, this is why I stopped using Windows Media Player, so maybe it has something to do with Yahoo? If so, any idea on what that may be? Thanks for any answers you can provide.

normally in cases like these, its determined that an outside program is 'fixing' your tags... ie WMP or yahoo

then MM pickups up the changes either via add/rescan or folder monitoring.

Fortunately for myself, I don't use WMP or yahoo or other programs which profess to automatically 'fix' tags, so I have never had problems related to such, but I can definately sympathize with it being annoying.

It sounds as if your tracks are not being tagged properly, and so whenever you Add/Rescan tracks to the library the old tag is being imported back into the database (overwriting your genres).

Am I right that the affected files are WMA files? If so, this thread should help: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 5&p=117733

Also, with MM you can limit what is synchronized to your device. Create a playlist of whatever you'd like to be synced, then in your device options configure your device to only sync songs from that playlist.
