On my H140, tracks within an album seem to play back in alphabetical order, which isn't very nice. The iRiver database doesn't include a track number.
When I sync the files with the pattern
\<Genre>\<Album>\<Track#>
Then 10 tracks play as 08, 06, 04, 02, 09, 07, 05, 03, 01, 10.
TDT, a iRiver database creation tool, seems to produce a database that makes the H140 play the same album in the correct order.
Weird. I'll try to work out why. It doesn't seem to have included the track number in the title or anything like that.

iRiver playback order

Re: iRiver playback order
A bit more investigation. It looks like the iRiver plays based on alphabetical order of the filenames in the directory. When I prepend the track number, the order comes out correct if I create the database with iFish.hmoffatt wrote:On my H140, tracks within an album seem to play back in alphabetical order, which isn't very nice. The database from MM seems to still make for a random order. More investigation required to figure this one out.

Re: iRiver playback order
Looking at the raw database, it seems that the tracks are in some sort of random order. The order I saw in the database is the same as how the H140 plays the tracks.hmoffatt wrote:The database from MM seems to still make for a random order. More investigation required to figure this one out.

You were right, tracks weren't properly sorted in the database file. You can download the latest fixed version from http://www.mediamonkey.com/beta/d_iRiverH.dll

Lourides,
Can you confirm that you're testing with beta 3? (and not the updated .dll that is mentioned earlier in this thread--that .dll is now out-of-date).
