cursor placement on file delete

Post by sadao »

I often need to run through a folder with 1000+ tracks and delete a bunch of them. I generally do this by scrolling up and down with the arrow keys. My problem is that when i delete a file the cursor gets reset to the top of the tracklist, so when i press down to go to the next track I end up a the beginning of the track list. This is rather annoying as I lose my location in the tracklist and have to find it again. It would seem more intutive for the cursor to default back to the closest track to the deleted one.

My $0.02.

I use my mouse wheel to scroll and the Ctrl key to select multiple tracks and delete them in one go.

Here...have $0.01 cent back

Yes, but then I would have to use my mouse. I'm about as anal about keyboard-only as you are about lyrics in your tags .

Yeah, but you have the cool plastic bills. Besides, the US Dollar is starting to look more and more like funny money.

As far as what's faster, that depends. I'm a big fan of keyboarding (see the thread I just started on the matter), and most of the time it's faster for me. The better designed the keyboard shortcuts are, the faster keyboard is over mouse. There are some situations where mouse usage is better, particularly with applications one isn't familiar with, and selecting multiple disparate tracks is one of them. Another is picking out one item out of many when the currently selected item is far.

But there are those circumstances where the opposite is definitely true. For instance, If i just selected one track, and want to delete the next one, arrow down + del is faster than reaching for the mouse, moving down one, clicking, reaching for the keyboard (or right clicking) and hitting del.

My $0.03. 8)
