Don't update to (2005-06-26) iPod firmware if using MM 2.4.1
As reported in the MediaMonkey forum and numerous other locations, the new iPod firmware is not backwards compatible with MediaMonkey 2.4.1 (or for that matter, any application except for the new iTunes 4.9).
If you wish to continue using MediaMonkey with you iPod, make sure not to upgrade to the new firmware!!
For discussions of this issue see:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4816
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php ... did=220154
If you've already upgraded and want to revert to the most recent compatible version you should find it in Ipod Updater/Previous versions in your start menu (or use the CD that came with your iPod).

Do NOT use iTunes 4.9 as well!
Rusty,
I did NOT update my iPod firmware but only 'tested' the new iTunes 4.9 with my iPod (which is managed by MM). This also deleted more than 25GB of music on my iPod (40GB, color).
So, please do NOT use iTunes 4.9 with your iPod if you manage your iPod with MediaMonkey!
(I have posted some details in the BUG report forum)
regards,
charlieMOGUL.

MediaMonkey 2.4.2 fixes iPod firmware update problem
fyi, if you upgrade to MM 2.4.2, then compatibility issues with the 2005-06-26 iPod Update will be solved.
The release candidate (as of 6/30/2005) is at: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4833

rusty,
Does this version also solve the issue described above (iTunes 4.9 in connection with MM)? I have just upgraded my iPod and MM.
I sync my iPod using MM but am eager to have a look at what podcasting is all about. Would it cause problems?
Would not be the end of the world though: I have all my MP3s on a seperate disk. But because my collection is over 30Gb it would cost a lot of time to restore my ipod to default and then re-sync all files.

Yes, both 'errors' are fixed
Guest,
I have tested the most recent MediaMonkey version with iTunes 4.9 as well as a new firmware for my iPod, and both problems are solved.
My guess is that they were very close related.
So you can use iTunes 4.9 safely when you use MediaMonkey to synchronize your iPod, eg. to download some podcasts on your iPod.

Hi,
I am guest from the previous mail (forgot to log in silly me)
I have upgrade iPod, iTunes and MM and all works perfectly fine.
Just one remark:
I have downloaded a podcast and uploaded it to the iPod (using iTunes)
Then I synced my musicDB to the iPod (using MM) I have set the option "delete tracks that aren't on the auto...." So MM then ask me if I want to the delete the PodCast item. Would be nice if MM recognised podcasts as such (and thus not delete them)

MM 2.4.2 Still broken with firware 6-26-05
I have a new 60 Gb iPod Color Photo, and MM 2.4.2 does not work! I erase my iPod, and load my Library from MM, and while all of the songs show up, mostly anyway, the Ipod will not play any of them. When I press play, the iPod quickly shuffles through all the songs, while playing no audio. This also happened on my old 40Gb click wheel iPod. This software is very buggy.

i have the same problem as moloch, can anyone help?
I have read the posts here, but the damn thing refuses to work. I copy files into the ipod, MM does its job, but I see none of the files in my ipod. I have restored, updated and I can't seem to get it right.
One thing that I find strange is that on my ipod node, I only see 3 FOLDERS...
can anyone help?.
tks

iPod answers
Hi,
Do you have the latest version of iPod firmware installed ?
Do you have the latest version of MediaMonkey installed ?
Have you checked BOTH iPod plugin settings ?
* Foce iTunes-style folders
* Trim path and/or filename length to 31
Please see post
"iPod problems: synching goes okay, songs won't play" http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3864 and
"iPod - database problem" http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4869 on this subject.
That you can't see the folders is common behaviour: They are hidden by default. You can see the folders by changing your Windows preferences to see hidden files and folders.

Can't make it work!
Charlie,
This is as far as I got using media monkey with your kind help : I am now able to change the tags of the files on my ipod using MM. I cannot add songs into it; only the complete folder on the ipod's root directory. When I look into ipod's root three, I don't see the "E:\iPod_Control\Music\F18\" folder.
I don't want to use Itunes.
Tks
