Converting APE files for Virtual CD

Post by Berry »

I have most of my music backed up on DVD as compressed APE files. I am looking for an easy way to catalogue this music from the DVD's instead of from the original CD's. MM's Virtual CD function seemed ideal as it keeps an electronic catalogue as well as creates Excel Reports showing MM's proprietary "Media" tag. Unfortunately I have been unable to get this to work the way I want it to due to the following:
1.MM does not allow me to convert an already compressed file when importing from Virtual CD. I wish to convert all the APE files to mp3 when I copy onto my hardrive.
2.If I first copy the Virtual CD files to disk as APE, then convert to mp3, MM does not allocate the new mp3 file to the Virtual CD and does not maintain the Virtual CD "media" tag.

Also...is there any way to choose the fields that get generated in the Excel Reports?

Suggestions are appreciated.

I do have a similar problem.

I keep my collection in a >192kbps mp3 format recorde on dvds. I usually use 320kbps for archival purposes.

I would like to catalog those dvds with MM, using virtual cd, but reencode them to a less space consuming format lets say 128kbps instead of simply copying the files.

Any sugestions?

Just explaining better, Virtual CD does not allow me to reencode an already encoded file stored in a cd or dvd.

Help wil be very much apreciated.

Interesting, I think that something like this could appear in next versions.
