CD Data Burning - filename length limit

Post by abecedarian »

Hi,

Let me say first that I think the CD Data burning is a great feature that I've been wishing for a while.

I have an album that has some really long titles and file names. I use the format <Album Artist> - <Album>/<Track> - <Title> for my data CDs. The problem is that I believe CDFS has limits on the length of both the filename and total path+filename. I don't think I've reached the latter limit, but I think my filenames are much longer than the limit. Anyway, Windows XP doesn't read the track names in that folder on the CD, while my CD player reads the tracks that have short names. It would nice if the CD Data burning wizard gave a warning, and gave the option of truncating the filename or the option of changing the name. I know that I get this warning when using other CD burning software when I do backups. It might be nice to have a warning about total filename length in other functions, such as in Auto-Organize. I'd rather not have filenames that are 100 characters long - it's too hard to read - and wouldn't mind just automatically truncating them.

On another note, I look forward to trying out the auto-conversion on sync function.
