WASAPI, DirectSound or Waveout

Post by mcateemc »

I noticed that MM4 supports WASAPI, DirectSound and Waveout. Any recommendations on which one is best? Also, does anyone know if there is a step by step guide that will take you through the set up process of these plugins? I haven't been able to find anything on the web or elsewhere that tells how to do this.

They're all good, it depends on how you listen to your music. If you want bit-perfect playback, you should use WASAPI in exclusive mode. Keep in mind however that this will prevent any other applications from making sound ( as exclusive mode = MM has exclusive use of the sound driver ). WASAPI in non-exclusive mode is essentially the same as DirectSound (main difference being that WASAPI will not work on Windows XP, while DirectSound will). Waveout is also fine, and I believe is there for much older systems that don't support directsound. But it works on newer PCs as well.

There isn't much setup needed, the defaults should work fine unless you have some problem with the sound.
