It would be nice if there was a way to schedule the file monitor to do a full update sometime in the middle of the night. As it stands now, the file monitor is pretty useless to me because unless you have it rescan on startup, it doesnt seem to pick up new content, even when added with MM open.
Scanning on startup is bad because A) All my music is on a network drive so it's a little slower, even tho it's connected via Gig-E ethernet and on a RAID partition and B) The sheer amount of music takes a long time to rescan. Being able to have MM start up and rescan at 4AM would be great.
Thanks!
File Monitoring Scheduling

As far as I know, the file monitor is permanently monitoring the directories you have chosen in the "File monitoring" preferences. There is an option to additionally scan these directories at startup (in case they were modified when MM was not started). But in all cases, MM should scan any new file as soon as it shows up in a monitored directory.
I have the "My music" folder monitored, and whenever I unzip an archive into this directory, the new files appear in MediaMonkey.
On the other hand, I know that file monitoring is consuming system resources, and some folders cannot be monitored (network folders), so scheduled scanning could make sense as an alternative.

Yea.. my music is on a media server so the drives are virtual drives. I'd probably still have bought MM anyway without knowing this but I really wanted this feature as my library is in constant flux and having to do a rescan of 400GB of music every time you start MM to have a working library kind of sucks.
Another vote for File Monitor Schedule
I too, have my music files on a networked drive. It would be really helpful to have the file monitor run at a time late at night. It's already running most of the time, but it's laboriously slow when I've got to scan 4000 tracks at startup or if I rescan the library to capture a new addition.
Thanks

i only use scan on start up for one folder (new music folder), all the other folders are monitored.
so if i want to add a song i put it in the new music folder, it gets picked up when opening MM (by start up scan, or if MM was open by filemonitor)
then i go to the folder (in the tree>locations>new music) i see if i want to add, if yes i copy it to music music or untagged music folder(copy using MM,otherwise things get messed up), these folders are also monitored ofcourse.
this works fine, startup is really fast and all new songs are added + with locations-node i can always see which songs are new or untagged.

Perhaps there is a bug in the monitoring of network shared drives? or maybe monitoring is not even supported with shared drives?
Does the monitor work OK if you add files to a local folder?
I do agree that scheduled scans would be nice, preferably with the options to scan every ## hours/days and at a specific time(s).
