Selection problem from UPnP server

Post by mcow »

When browsing a UPnP server from MMA, I can start a track from there, but I can't select an album or any tracks, so I can't get to the Add to Playlist (Play Last) button -- that button is only on the toolbar you see when a selection is made.
This is true for both the NAS server and the MediaMonkey server.

I ought to be able long-press a track or album and have it selected, with the per-item checkboxes displayed and the selection toolbar displayed.

I'd be pleased if plays in MMA from the NAS server could sync into the MMW library.

MMA 87, w/ MMW 1616

MMA works just as well with the UPnP server from MMW 4.07, by the way.

If you use MMW as server this works.

If I use MMW as a server, then MMW updates the library with every play. (And scrobbles.) This isn't ideal, simply because the server could be accessed by multiple clients. It's possible to write a plugin for the NAS that would scrobble, and another that could update all plays back to the MMW library, but I don't think the server is the correct location for that activity.

In my case, MMW is not always available, but the NAS is. In fact, I ran into that just this morning: the computer was asleep, the NAS was not. I was upstairs working out, listening to last.fm. They played something I wanted to hear more of, so I browsed to the NAS and played what I wanted. But those plays didn't make it into the library.
(Actually, they did, but that was because I later scrobbled the plays using cog_scrobbler, imported the plays from last.fm, and then manually added plays for the case where the last.fm info didn't exactly match the library info.)

So, that's what I want: MMA should track its local play history and sync plays backs. MMA should scrobble. And if MMA is playing from the MMW server, there should only be one playcount increase and one scrobble per play.

And none of that has anything to do with the selection problem I originally reported.

I doubt that it will ever happen as the plays are taking place of files on the NAS and not files in either MMA or MMW (although I presume MMW indexes the NAS in your setup). This means MMA would need to keep track of file plays on NAS (which generally are transcoded and/or filename changed) and then somehow find the corresponding files in the MMW DB to update their playcount).

However if MMA or NAS scrobble plays to last.fm they can be imported into MMW with an existing addon.

This is working BETTER in build 93, thanks! Individual tracks can be selected. An entire album cannot, however, unlike browsing local storage.

This appears to be deliberate: http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=10272

You can move into the album, select all, and then play, but can't just play the album from the list of albums; this is different from browsing the local library.
I'm guessing the selection isn't enabled because the contents of the album have not yet been retrieved from the server. (Which is why we don't see a track count in an album listing over UPnP, as well.) I think it would be better to set up the checkbox(es), allow multiple selections, and play from the list of albums. (Or artists -- any collections.) I don't think there are any empty collections presented by UPnP.
