Album Artist semicolon: surrounding spaces not trimmed

I have a record with Album Artist set to: Iron & Wine; Calexico
note the space character before "Calexico"
I sync this record and another Iron & Wine album and a Calexico album.

MMA's Artists node shows one album for " Calexico" (at the top of the list) and one for "Calexico" (in alphabetical order), and two for "Iron & Wine".

MMW groups both Calexico albums under "Calexico".
