[164] WiFi sync of playlist to MMW still not right [#11279]

Post by mcow »

This week, before the newest MediaMonkey versions came out, I had gotten an Android update on my Tab (now running 4.2.2), so I uninstalled MMA before that and then reinstalled and reconfigured everything after the upgrade. I now have three large playlists (not shared over UPnP) that I select to bring a couple dozen albums, and that's what I did. They sync'd just fine, and I did nothing to change the sync settings since.

With the new versions:
0) Upgrade MMA and MMW, sync: no tracks uploaded, downloaded, or deleted; no obvious problems.
1) In MMA, select for sync a (non-auto) Playlist from MMW (one that's been shared via UPnP), sync: the tracks come over, the playlist appears in the MMA Playlist node: no obvious problems
2) Sync again; playlist is not re-sync'd, so an earlier bug is apparently fixed. Yay.

3) Configure "Portable Device Sync" options on MMW, "Auto Sync (--> Library)"
[x] Auto-Sync new files and playlists from the device to the PC
Selected folders: Music, Playlists
4) Create a new playlist on MMA by adding a couple of tracks.
At this point, I notice a problem: one album that I step into to select a track from has two duplicated tracks in the album listing.

5) With the new playlist created, I hit Sync. After negotiating with MMW, MMA prompts: OK to Delete Your New Playlist?
uh... no? I forgot to check at this point whether the new playlist made it onto MMW.

6) Sync again; get the same prompt, but this time say Yes
- Playlist is deleted
- Some ten tracks are "uploaded" to MMW, which have not been played or otherwise touched since the original sync with the older software.
Two of these tracks are the duplicated ones. I look into an album for one of the other tracks, and it too has a duplicate entry.

So the problems are:
A) The new playlist exists on MMW, but not on MMA. This is not right. Why would I create a playlist on MMA that I don't want to keep there? I understand the logic; the logic is flawed. Instead of deleting it on MMA, it should be added to the synclist.
B) Duplicated tracks on MMA. Looking in the MMA folders, I see only the one file. Each file's Properties shows the same path. I haven't changed metadata on any of these tracks; I haven't even played any of them since the initial sync earlier in the week, before upgrading.
C) Duplicated tracks on MMW: These are copies of the tracks, which have been placed into <profile>/Music/storage/extSdCard
/storage/extSdCard on MMA may be a new-to-4.2.2 pathname - I don't remember if the /storage/ part of the path existed before. (The internal card does have a completely new name, /storage/emulated/0, rather than /SdCard0 [or maybe /storage/SdCard0] like it used be.)

The tracks that were copied back are all MP3s. Some of them were already MP3s in the library, others were converted from FLACs to the device.

MMW 1658, MMA 164

By the way, there are actual arrow Unicode characters that would look better than that "-->".

I resolved the duplicate-track situation by:
1) Disabling "sync to MMW" option
2) Removing & deleting the MMW copies (Music/storage/ExtSdCard)
3) Syncing once: duplicate entries (and the track) removed from MMA
4) Syncing again: copies restored to MMA

Hi mcow,

Re. 3: duplicate tracks in the album listing. I can't replicate that. Any ideas what might have caused it?

Re. 5: Thanks. There are a couple of issues re. bidi sync usability including this, tracked at http://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=11279

Re. 6 (and 3): I wonder if somehow duplicates ended up on your device because some tracks were already on it, prior to the sync operation. Alternatively, issues described at the bug above could have caused dups in MMW.

In any case, most of this should be fixed with #11279
