"Save image to file folder" option is flawed [#11393]

Post by Barry4679 »

I store art in the folder, not the tag. ie. Image Location is set to "Save image to file folder"

I usually add an image to the folder via a Save from the browser, or via the Explorer. ie. I get the image into the folder w/o using MMW.

I then need to tell MMW to display the art for the album, eg. View option Show Art with Details.

Step:
I select the whole album in MMW, Edit Properties, and then go to the Artwork tab.
I press ADD, and select the image from the browser window.

Issues:
1> It shouldn't imbed any art into the tracks as I have told it not too, but it does imbed a phantom image. It doesn't show in the Artwork tab in MMW, but I can see it if I edit the tag via the right click menu tab comes with dBpoweramp. It is a 0x0, 1kb image. It is a pain because it stops Sonos from showing the actual art for the album. ie. Sonos displays this phantom empty image.

I can see that the phantom is inserted by MMW.If I get MMW to Remove the "stored in file" artwork, it disconnects from the folder art, and offers to delete the .jpg, and also deletes this blank "image" that it has inserted into the tag. dBpoweramp confirms that the tag is now empty. If I then get MM to re-add the folder image (just so that I can see artwork in MMW) it recreates the blank image back into the tag. ... The workaround is add the image so that MMW can display art, and then re-edit each track with dBpoweramp to remove this phantom tag.

2> It is a pain that there isn't an option to just "Attach" an existing folder image> The "Add" button insists upon creating a duplicate image file. Even if I give it the same name (Folder.jpg) it creates another file using its "Format for multiple images" rules.

MMW: 1664

Hi, I just tested it and I haven't been able to replicate the issue.

1. I D&D an image link to Properteies -> Artwork window
2. Add Image window pop-ups and I select
Image Location: [Save artwork to file folder]
3. Clicked [OK] and the artwork is saved to file folder as expected.
4. Right-clicked the file in Windows Explorer and gone to the dbPowerAmp "Auto Properties" page nad "ID-Tag"
=> no artwork as expected (the same with other software like iTunes, WMP, foobar etc.)

No artwork as expected in all the tested apps.

Not what I am doing. ... Hadn't realised that the Artwork tab was a D&D target ... thanks :)

What I was reporting was:
D&D into the albums folder, just using Explorer, ie no MMW involvement.
Or Save into the Folder directory from the browser, again no MMW involvement.

Then go to MMW, and try to add the art to the album's MM entry via select the album, then press the Add button in the Artwork tab. Select the jpg from the browser window which MMW opens up, etc etc

I have the same issue. I don't want MM to write any artwork tag information but any tag change adds a 'phantom image' to the artwork tag. This is preventing Logitech MediaServer from displaying artwork for the album, even if only one track in the folder has this tag. This is a fairly recent problem, within the last six months or so, as older files (going back 7+ years) didn't have this problem. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, MM 4.1.0.1664. All files are FLAC, saved with the tracks in folders by album with a Folder.jpg image for the front cover art.

When I view album tracks using Windows Explorer with the the preview pane active, tracks without artwork tag data show the cover art in the preview pane with a MM logo in the bottom right corner but tracks that have the unwanted artwork tag information show no image. Mp3tag shows the cover tag as being a blank image with a size of 10 bytes. I've been using Mp3tag to remove the artwork tags but I would like MM to not modify the artwork tag at all.

Also, in the same time frame, I've noticed that the date tags are now showing two entries. When possible, I like to enter the date as yyyy-mm-dd and now any time ANY tag change is made the date tag is modified to yyyy; yyyy-mm-dd. If I only entered the year in the date tag it shows yyyy; yyyy. The tag looks normal in MM with only a single entry showing, but third party tag editors are showing the extra tag with the year only added. Again, older files don't have this problem until I make a tag update, e.g. changing a track rating. I expect that tag changes should only effect the tag(s) that I want changed but it appears that both the artwork and date tags are being changed.

Yes, this is my exact environment also. I still have the problem.
