I bought both the pro version on windows and adnroid to enable more advanced smart playlists and also wifi sync for video on my tablet.
I then started using mediamonkey to sync video over wifi to my android devices and all was well.
I then started syncing music to mediamonkey using the itunes playlists that were imported into mediamonkey and all seemed well. I knew the playcounts wouldn't likely be synced back but most of my listening is in the car with the ipod which syncs it playlists to itunes.
But it appears the autoplaylists from itunes are not updated when mediamonkey checks the library at startup.
Now the questions;
Is it possible for the imported playlists be automatically updated from itunes into mediamonkey at startup or something?
Does the sync for an ipod touch with mediamonkey have to use USB or could I sync all playcounts and ratings from the ipod over wifi with mediamonkey and thus mean above isn't needed?
At the moment I use my one and only apple product in the car due to its integration with the car stereo and wifi sync playcounts and songs to itunes when I park in the driveway but happy to move on.

Re: itunes playlists
I don't understand your question about itunes playlists. Are you talking about playlists in iTunes or from your iPod? MM should import playlists from the iPod but to my knowledge does not import playlists from iTunes.
iPod touch sync must be done over USB.

Re: itunes playlists
No, unless you keep exporting iTunes Playlists (MediaMonkey has an Addon to do this automatically, maybe iTunes does too) and have Folder Monitoring (Add/Rescan Files) set to run a startup scan on the folder where the iTunes playlists are exported.pbrown wrote:Is it possible for the imported playlists be automatically updated from itunes into mediamonkey at startup or something?

When using MMA to MMW sync (wifi and USB) tag changes and play counts will be synced between MMA and MMW. Make sure you're using MMW 4.1 and the latest release of MMA.pbrown wrote: I knew the playcounts wouldn't likely be synced back

Somehow all my itunes playlists, and playcounts, ended up in MM when I installed it. I didn't install any add ons to do it. Can't remember how they go there either but they are under imported playlists. I didn't export them from itunes. However they were imported the first place, would work if I just imported them again. Especially if I could make that automated.

Re: itunes playlists
Yes I noticed that they sync well between MMA and MMW. Thats the primary reason I bought MM in the first pace as I created a playlist to sync new video only if it hasn't been watched. SO when I watch it on my tablet it gets removed from the sync next time. Works great!Lowlander wrote:When using MMA to MMW sync (wifi and USB) tag changes and play counts will be synced between MMA and MMW. Make sure you're using MMW 4.1 and the latest release of MMA.
But my music is normally listened to on my ipod in the car so those playcounts (be it from the ipod or itunes) were the other ones I was after. If I can get the itunes playlists imported often, then these playcounts will be imported (seeing ipod - > itunes will do this sync then -> MMW).
Re: itunes playlists
Importing Playlists doesn't import play counts. However if you sync both iPod and Android with MediaMonkey the play counts should work.

Hmm. Now I need to look at how the playcounts got in there. They matched when I installed MMW so I am a little confused.Lowlander wrote:Importing Playlists doesn't import play counts. However if you sync both iPod and Android with MediaMonkey the play counts should work.
I used to sync itunes to media player with a program a year ago but don't use that anymore so the playlists and playcounts didn't come from itunes -> Media player -> MMW..
I also used to use isyncr to sync some music from itunes to my phone wirelessly. But m,y phone has never synced with MMW and those playcounts wouldn't have been right, nor have ALL of itunes playlists.

If iPhone fails to sync in MediaMonkey you should troubleshoot with a debug log (step 4b): http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

Re: itunes playlists
Thanks Lowlander. I've installed the plugin. Looks like I will setup all Android devices to only use MM for syncing music and video.
And leave itunes to sync the Ipod through wifi and itunes. And then it looks like the playcount and ratings will sync between MM and itunes both ways. So the songs with updated ratings should update in both players and both ways, as well as the playcount.
If this is true I might start using MM for my music as well on my android devices so ratings and playcounts are also updated.
Hope I have understood this right. Apart from still having to use itunes for wifi sync (not that big a deal) to my ipod (only thing compatible to display track details on my car stereo), everything else will be spot on. It's almost too good to be true.
All my itunes ratings and playcounts are already synced and still not sure how they were, but this addon should keep them up to date.
Thanks, Peter.

Re: itunes playlists
Well so far so good.
Playcounts and ratings seem to sync between the MM and itunes well. An update in either gets transferred to the other.
Not sure if I make playcount change for a particular file in both itunes and MM, before syncing MM and itunes. But time will tell, and not too fussed if I don't have a few plays added really.
Phone and tablet both sync well with MM over wifi. Autosyncs work great although I sort of knew that because I've been syncing video for a month already.
And ipod still syncs to itunes through wifi.
I looked at that addin but hadn't realised it synced the playcounts and ratings both ways.
So thanks for your help and pointing that addon out. Appreciated!
