How to prevent MediaMonkey from scanning a flash drive?
I'm a MediaMonkey newbie, and I'm really struggling with figuring out the logic of how it all works, so thanks for any help you can offer.
I use MediaMonkey mainly to downnload and then transfer podcasts/music to a memory card that I insert into a Sansa Clip MP3 player.
However, MediaMonkey automatically scans every device I plug into my computer whether it's a flash drive an iPod a memory card or an external hard drive. And when it does the scan, it also leaves behind a MediaMonkey folder on the device. I would like to prevent MediaMonkey from scanning these other devices and loading folders onto them. I want MediaMonkey to only recognize the one device - the memory card that I insert into my Sansa Clip. Is there any way to do this?
I've looked for a setting to turn off autoscanning and make it so that MediaMonkey only scans an inserted device when I tell it to do so manually, but I haven't been able to locate these setting. It makes sense to me that it would have this option or setting, but I haven't been able to find it.
Thanks!

Go to Options > Portable devices and uncheck any devices you don't want MM to interact with.

Thanks, NoHitter151.
That did the trick. I guess you always have to let MediaMonkey scan and register a new device once - the first time you plug it in. MediaMonkey will add that device to the Portable Device Sync window with the appropriate plugin, and there's nothing you can do about that.
But afterwards you can uncheck the box for that device in the Portable Device Sync window and delete the MediaMonkey folder from the device. After that, MediaMonkey will no longer scan that device and it won't put the MediaMonkey folder on it anymore.
I thought I could just delete the device from the Portable Device Sync window, but I tried that and MediaMonkey just rescanned and then re-added the device to the list the next time I plugged it in. So you have to let MediaMonkey do its thing once and then uncheck the box afterwards. Then it will never rescan or reregister that device again.
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

Re: How to prevent MediaMonkey from scanning a flash drive?
I am having a bit of trouble with this.
The problem I have is that I have several mp3 players using the usbmass plugin and also a couple of external drives. MM seems to have started recognising the external drives as if they were the mp3 players (I suppose due to drive letters being reallocated depending on which devices are attached or not)
I can't really uncheck them from the device list, because that would prevent the players being scanned when I connect them, as MM seems to have difficulty distinguishing which is which.
Edit - though having looked at the drives, it doesn't seem that MM is creating a folder on them - not that I can find anyway, even with system and hidden files visible.

MM only creates the folder when it is accessed with WMDM plugin, not USB mass.frankenpod wrote:I am having a bit of trouble with this.

Re: How to prevent MediaMonkey from scanning a flash drive?
Windows driver controls how device is recognized on system, I've seen number of USB drives that need to be refornmatted in order to be detected as external HDD device and not Media Device.
Why is that it gets me puzzled me too.

I thought it was just me going nuts over this. the win 7 keeps wanting to reformat the thumb drive after I've transferred a few music files to another computer via the thumb drive. and mmw 4 keeps adding its mm file folder on it. could the things be connected and that is what causes the win 7 or newer to reformat?

Media Monkey creating directories on CF and SD cards
Hi there everybody,
I am using Media Monkey Gold 4.1.7.1741. For the past few months, whenever I put an external media source to my PC (USB drive, SD card or Compact Flash card), Media Monkey creates a directory on that card.
Can anyone point me to the setting in Media Monkey that is controlling this? I would like to turn it off.
Thanks so much,
Alan

I'm having the same problem. I'm running Media Monkey Gold 4.1.8 1751. Every time I plug in a USB thumbdrive, a Media Monkey folder is created on it. I would like to be able to stop this.

Re: How to prevent MediaMonkey from scanning a flash drive?
For me I just renamed C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\Plugins\d_WMDM.dll to have a different extention other than dll. This is the DLL that MM uses to find removable media such as flash drives/truecrypt drives/virtual ram drives/mountable VHDs...
