Thanks, appreciated. I'm pleased to say that yesterday and today I'm having much greater success. I think the key in my case was to control my impatience and wait a bit longer after inserting the CD. And I've also had to resist re-organising and re-tagging each CD's tracks. That task awaits until I get all 80-100 ripped!

Terry, since I replaced my CD player I have not had much trouble. This morning I have ripped several CDs. The first one almost immediately popped back out and had some kind of error saying there is no app associated with this. I re-inserted it and this time MMW5 had no trouble with it and found the tracks. Another one gave the same error but did not eject the CD. On that I just hit Close on the error notice and it continued. So far all tracks are being identified and I just select them all, Right click to hit properties and add the genre, then Rip AudioCD.

I have not come across an unknown one in awhile but when I did (once I'd replaced the CD player) I just edited each track before ripping and all the tags saved this time. I'm not sure what the connection is to my old player but I suspect its power input was intermittently stopping, and throwing it off (it had 2 cables for 2 separate USB ports for power, and they barely stretched across my laptop so were under tension. My new one just has one and no issues so far)

Are you using MusicBrainz or Freedbb lookup (Tools > Options > Metadata lookup)? For me with MusicBrainz on the latest beta it's less than 10% that has no information.

Which Build (Help > About) are you using?

I’ve now ripped around 30 of the 80 with MM5. The main outstanding flaw in the procedure is that after inserting a fresh CD only about one third of them bring up the tags without further attempts, IOW I eject and try again for most CDs. All are commercially bought. For some sets (physically identical discs) one might work at once and another need up to four attempts.

BTW, re the Unknowns,.MM4 added a timestamp suffix, so there was never an identical match, but MM5 doesn’t do that.

By default MediaMonkey should look up CD information for commercial (those purchased in a store) CD's: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHelp:Getting_Track_Information_from_the_Internet/5.0#Lookup_Commercial_Audio_CD_Information

If not you can do this manually using Tools > Options > [url=https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHelp:Ripping_Tracks_from_CDs/5.0]Metadata lookup[/url]

If that doesn't find information for the CD you'll need to manually [url=https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHelp:Editing_Track_Properties/5.0]edit[/url] the CD tags before Ripping so that it isn't ripped as unknown.

Just seen this thread. Somewhat reassured that I'm not the only long term MM4 (Gold) user having a few difficulties with MM5 (not yet Gold).

If you get a few minutes could you share your successful CD ripping workflow please? As you may have seen from my very recent posts, I'm struggling a bit! I'm getting patient help from Lowlander, but your scenario sounds closer to mine.

First a word of thanks to you, Lowlander. You now seem to be virtually a one-man support team for MediaMonkey! Even more so than I remember from over a decade ago. So thanks for your patience.

For the time being I'm working around the previous issue I raised about the automatic 'Rip CD' window, by
1. Ensuring MMW4 isn't running
2. Ensuring MMW5 is running
3. Inserting the CD
4. Quickly using Tools > Rip Audio CD (Ctrl+Shift+R)

That seems to prevent MM4 opening and displaying the 'Rip CD' window, and I can use the MM5 equivalent.

But I'm still floundering over several points as I proceed to use MMW5 to rip my 80 or so CDs. I'll ask about just one in this post, with more likely to follow!

The CD I [u]first [/u]ripped this morning finished with a message that the file 'Unkown...' already existed. Confused, I used a 'skip all' option to get out of that, so that I could investigate. As part of that I have just inserted another CD and here is a screenshot:

I suspect I may be making some basic mistake. For my earlier CD should I have waited for some indication that the tracks had been identified before clicking OK? If so, is there no warning about that?

Just to remind you, my major reason for now using MM5 instead of my trusty (Gold) MM4, is to get the tracks automatically identified.

Thank you; it is very possible the CD player was to blame as I've gotten a new one going now and also downloaded the debug version just in case but so far the edited tags are remaining after ripping. I'll post back if it recurs.

1) Since it was last I do not recall exact steps but I downloaded MM5 and installed assuming it would find everything already present in MM4. Later I uninstalled MM4 probably using Windows' Uninstaller.
2)I definitely edited tags and ripped right away. Unfortunately i can't check another right now as my CD player is not working well.

2) You can edit CD's prior to Rip and I do so myself all the time. Are you sure you edit the tags and then immediately Rip? Also Recently Added is just an AutoPlaylist with Sort on Recently Added limited to x amount of files. You can recreate this (Gold users).

I am using version 5.0.2.2531 of MMW5 (free version), on Windows 10. I had upgraded from MMW4 which I loved, and still have not gotten used to 5 yet.
1) in the migration to MMW5, a lot of the music I had suddenly lost its artist genre or got renamed. Many of the genre became just numbers. I have worked through that and most of that is fixed. It also re-assigned artwork to the wrong albums in some cases. (TBH, that was a problem in MM4 was well but I had fixed them all and now they are mixed up again)

2) when I rip a CD, the new path often shows as Music/Unknown Album/Unknown Track etc. If I allow it to rip like that, then I cannot find it in the library to fix it afterward because there is no "recently added" panel that I have found. MMW4 used to bring up what you had just ripped immediately to be fixed. If I try to fix it before ripping it all looks good but then once it's ripped, poof it's gone. Then the only way I can find it is to go to Files to Edit and choose Unknown Artist or Unknown Album, then look at how many tracks are in it and compare to what I've just ripped to see if it's the correct one (I'm usually ripping several CDs at a time and didn't realize it wasn't saving the metadata until I finished with all of them.
