Yes, there are artistsort and albumsort tags in most tagging standards, but MediaMonkey doesn't support those yet.

FYI: I believe that ID3 supports an artist sort name tag for .mp3 - that doesn't mean that MM5 uses it . . .

Thank you @dtsig & @Rob_S for your replies.

I guess I should've looked at the specs more closely before, because this is non-negotiable for me.

So much for (and so long to) my 61.17 €.

Regards,
Sauki

I totally agree, this is how sort by name should work, as it does in any phone directory.

Usually, the principle used is that the last name and first names need to be entered in separate fields, or separated by commas, and it displays as first name, last name, but sorts on the last name, first name characters.

This requires careful and consistent data entry by users.

I don't think internet tagging is available with the names broken down, so that would be an issue also.

Like the man said above - I think we will have to get used to it!!

I believe that the problem is ... there is no SORT BY field for artist (or anything else). It uses the artist as you have it in the properties. I think you need to learn to live with it as it is ... though i am sure someone will chime in if i am way off base :)

Hi everyone:
Even though I purchased MediaMonkey a couple of years ago, I never did get it to work the way I like.
Now I'm trying to see if I can be a little more patient and get it done this time :D

It took me quite some time to get my iTunes to work right the way I like it, and now that I'm trying to abandon it, I'd like to have the same functionality from MediaMonkey and wean myself from the Apple tit.

I like seeing my albums as I would on my shelf:
1. Sorted alphabetically by album artist (e.g. McCartney, Paul, not "Paul McCartney"), but displaying the name as normal (i.e. Paul McCartney) This is why the iTunes feature of having "album artist" and "album artist sort by" is really helpful.
2. Album (chronologically, by year of release)

Beyond that,
- by disc number (e.g. Pink Floyd's The Wall by disc number)
- by track number as it appears on the album

All of that also needs to work in the same manner when I sync to iPhone, iPod, etc...

Can someone please send me down the correct rabbit hole so I can achive this on MediaMonkey?
I'd really appreciate it; thanks!
